Silent Hill Downpour

Any updates on this guys? I am a fan of these games and was looking forward to it. I have to say though that its not actually in stock in many places. And the cheepest is play!

I've got use to the combat now, still poor, but you do get use to it.

The exploration and eerie feeling is very good imo, and is very much Silent Hill to me. If the combat was up to par, it would be a very good game!

Some areas (dark with the flashlight) look fantastic graphically, which all adds to the Silent Hill feel.

If you are a Silent Hill fan then it is definitely worth a purchase for me.

Cheers for that. I am a big fan and love these games (Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Alan Wake) So i think i will get it as i am in need of something to play for a bit. Any idea on how long the single player game is? I really dont fancy forking out £37 for something thats only got about 6 hours of gameplay as i could see this being less than £20 in a couple of weeks.

Not sure how long, these games last a while for me as I'm a real explorer in these games, so I will check out every street/house/abandoned building etc and try not to leave any undead scum "breathing" :)

I'll also do every side mission I can find, so will last me a while I think. You also have the 3 difficulty levels if you want to go back to the game again... plus any DLC that might come our way.

BUMP!

Just thought i would bump this thread. I bought SH: Downpour a little while ago as it had come down a fair bit. I was going to save it to play over xmas but as i was off work i though i would play it. Now then... Well it has the SH atmosphere and in places it looks fantastic BUT OMG the performance is utterly terrible. In places it will just stutter and halt, some times it will save at random places and it freezes for a couple of seconds. you will be fighting something and the frame rate drops to a couple of frames a second. Very poor indeed. There is apparently a patch due out but this game has been out for over 6 months, how it was ever released like that i really dont know.

Oh and on top of these issues i really dont think the "Main" Monster that you spend a fair bit of time running away from really works very well. Maybe it will become apparent by the end of the game but all it does in certain parts is follow you and burn you to death if you are not fast enough. There is nothing tangiable about it and i really dont think it works at all. The Pyramid head from the past games are very sinister and really horrible in a creepy monster sort of way but there just isnt that with a burning glowy ball that you have to run from periodically... :(

Silent Hill: Downpour patch now available on PS3

Konami has launched a new patch and title update for Silent Hill: Downpour on the PlayStation 3. The download was previously made available a couple of weeks ago.

The patch improves a number of features and addresses various bugs, including:

o Improved frame rate
o Fixed save game system
o Fixed bugs in “Homeless” side quest/mission
o Several other performance enhancements/bug fixes

funily enough as i got home the evening that i posted this it has automatically updated it.. Will give it a blast this afternoon to see whats improved.

Well as far as I can tell the patch has done bugger all :( and in top of that I managed to get the glitch on the beggar side quest on normal where you can't get the fishing rod... Awesome... Err not!

Well after finishing this game last night i was REALLY dissapointed. I am a big fan of Silent Hill but to be quite honest it was pretty terrible. The story wasnt bad but pretty predictable. The baddies, all 7/8 of them, were pretty, well VERY poor. And the atmosphere just wasnt there as much as the older games. I am an advocate that things must change and develop with the progression of gaming trends but this game felt like it had been put together by an rookie developer to apease the fans with another game but it felt so shoddy. On top of everything the performance, even with the patch, was utterly terrible.

I am glad i didnt pay full price for it but still feel ripped off at £18.

I love the Silent Hill Franchise but for me this was a 4/10 game. Shame on Konami for allowing this to be released. :(
