** OFFICIAL Football Manager 2012 Thread **

Stupid question but if i wanted to run FM12 on my current pc could i transfer the game iam playing onto my new pc when i recieve it
Yes. You can copy the savegame over. Do you play FM through Steam or with the disc? I think Steam allows for 5 installs of FM on different machines but don't quote me on that.

You could always uninstall FM12 from your current PC and then install it onto new PC and copy the savegame file over. :)

Well the i5 2500K is a fair bit faster than a Q8300. The game would process faster but really RAM is the big thing with FM. The more you have, the more leagues and players you can run in the game. How much do you have now?

It would be worth waiting a few weeks for Ivybridge to come out and then the i5 2500K might be a bit cheaper OR you could get an Ivybridge 3570K which is the 2500K's direct replacement. See this thread for more info on Ivybridge.

Put it this way, get a 3570K or 3770K and 8Gb of Green RAM along with a Z77 motherboard and FM will fly high and fast!

And FYI, Green RAM.

I sort of know how it works, been playing since Championship Manager 2001/02. But what I meant was - how much improvement would I see in terms of speed?

I dont know how fast you used to run the game, but my PC is a i7 2600 @ 4.5ghz, 8GB and the game is installed on a 256GB SSD - it flies, I mean the processing bar you get when results come on is almost instant (ie you cant really see the scores it previews), no delay on any screen when clicking around etc

So if you are getting newer and faster tech then I assume it will be even more nuts.

Stuck in the Season 2 rut of trying to motivate a bunch of big heads atm - keep drawing silly games

Anyway January will spicen it up as Marchisio arrives from Juve for 40m and Ramires (Chelsea) will be the new world record transfer as we have forked out 118m for him!

I will probably shift on Xabi Alonso... maybe Khedira as well to break up the jam for slots in the middle.

Team is starting to realise we need to play to get anything out the season again, but we face Bayern in the Champs League last 16 which im not happy about.

As for my new buys... well Ramires played well on his debut against Villareal in the Cup before he broke his jaw and will miss 1 month :( Means ill have to keep both Khedira and Alonso around now through the transfer window.

So a SSD, i5 and 8gb Corsair Vengeance RAM would be fine.

Yes! Largest SSD you can find + any I series processor (I have the older i7 920) and at least 4gig of ram (8 generally helps things along) to have FM running with a decent number of leagues (I tend to have most the big European ones with Brazil + Argentina for regen goodness) at a tidy pace.

Malteser having played a few different leagues like myself have you found that a certain tactic can dominate that league for you?

Depends what you mean by it. If you mean, there is one tactic for each league, that totally dominated the league, I do not agree. What I do agree on, is that there are some tactics that with the right players, will just win you each league, anywhere in the world.I tend to always use the same formations. 4-3(CM)-1-2, 4-2(CM)-1-3, 4-2-3(AML, AMC, AMR)-1. Basically just those. They always seem to work for me.

I did find though, from FM2011 (and it continued on FM2012), that any good striker will turn out to be amazing as Advanced Forward. Like, that setting is soooo over rated its unreal. I mean, how can I, even with a not so good striker, how can he bag 20+ goals. And my team is not even that good. It only doesn't work in Italy. I don't know why, but it just doesn't.

It's because they don't seem to get marked.

I find that in England 4-1-3-2, Holland 4-1-2-1-2, Italy 4-1-2-2-1, France 3-2-3-2 and Brazil 4-2-2-2

These are the leagues I have competed in the most and no matter what team I seem to manage I do really well with.

I think I went 4-3-1-2 for England, Holland, Brazil and italy. I will be going back to italy and Holland, so I will try that Italian tactic. Are the 2 AML and AMR or AMc and AMC?

just resigned as england boss out of pure embarrassment

permier league champions with middlesbrough
2nd place premier league with boro whilst winning the champions league.
