**Samsung ES8000 2012 LED TV Thread**

It's not so clear cut any more - my last Panny plasma went back to the shop to be replaced by an LED and, for gaming at least, it performs better.

Bring on OLED so we no longer have to compromise!

Out of curiosity which panny did you have and what did you replace it with. Only reason I ask is, I have found most plasmas to be much better for gaming than LCD panels

Indeed, due to the 0.0001ms response time, but the cheaper the plasma the worse the phosfurs.

im waiting to see how the new ones pan out, and also the es7000/8000 as they do sound impressive, and pana seem to be lagging behind and smart tech.

Today i had the pleasure of unboxing and setting one of these beauties up, BUT i also had the job of reboxing it later on.

The telly looks great, for a LED the blacks are pretty amazing, very little sign of blue on dark scenes and the motion is very well handled.

Voice control and motion control is a bit Meh, and very hitnmiss, BUT the one i recieved has a major issue, it kept locking up, changing chanel volume or trying to access the smart function caused it to freeze.

when i did get it to work, it randomly changed to japanese lol, so its going back and another will be on its way.

Hopefully this is a one off and the next i can leave out and demo fully.

While it looks fabulous, the 55" is too small for that kind of investment imo (as Ive got a 5090 which is now feeling small lol, £2500 for 5" increase is not a great deal when there are 65" Pana plasmas for £3000)

Just been in a large department store where they have them on display and so tempted to upgrade my 46" D8000.
Don't think the mrs would be too happy though.

40" £1449
46" £1899
55" £2499

All come with a 5 year warranty

Yep...it's a Samsung alright!!:D:D

Just happened to wander into a very well known high street electricals retailer and, surprisingly, they had the 46" version on display and the picture quality was STUNNING. Not only was the image pin-sharp, but the colours and brightness were extremely vivid; easily the best set on display in the shop.

The bezel is so thin it looks like the image is just floating in mid air and the thickness/depth is impressively thin too. In fact, it made the set seem deceptively small compared to most of the other TVs of the same size because it has virtually no bezel.

The downside was it was marked up at £1899 (I'm sure it can be found cheaper online). What I want is a set with THAT panel, dispense with all the smart TV features and sell it for about....£600 ;)

Well worth going and seeing it in the flesh if you're considering getting one :)

Small bump to this, we had 3 models delivered last week, another 40es8000 and a 40/46es7000 all of which had issues, they were very slow to respond, and would lock up loads, and at random times reboot.

Today samsung released a new firmware 1005.5 and all three are now super fast, and really responsive.

Voice commands work great, guesture is a bit odd, but it does work.

One thing that is missing and probably the most daft of all is NO Bbc iplayer yet :/

Does anybody know if any of the updated loveliness of this tv can be handed down to the 7000 series by way of firmware update? Thank you.

the update is for both the 7000/8000 series yes, it works fine btw.

I forgot to look at the video apps, but from memort it has.

Netflix

Blinkbox

lovefilm

and possibly a couple more.

My apologies but how is it accessed. I am runing a hdmi from the tv straight to the PC by-passing any of the smart capabilities and I confess to ignoring the latest offer for a firmwate update via the remote. Thanks

I have my 46 inch ES8000 but I was tempted to take it back. After unpacking and attempting to set it up, I encountered so many issues:

1) TV reboots itself every ten minutes or so
2) Software updates hanging when attempting to connect (TV is using a wired connection)
3) No UK TV catchup apps
4) Samsung Hub not loading properly, "Your Video" disappearing
5) Slow and unresponsive UI

Only tonight after browsing the samsung website did I find the manual firmware update. After flashing that on every issue has been fixed but the TV still needs UK catchup apps.

If you had read this thread earlier you would have spotted the link i posted for the updates :p

WHY the released the TV's so buggy is beyond me, as no OTA release has been made and many people wouldnt be awar about it.

How are you getting on with the TV after a couple of months. Should have mine soon.

I currently have a 40" Sony X2000 that I have had for about 8 years and was intending to replace it with the 46" ES8000. My Sony has a massive bezel and I have just measured corner to corner and its 52"!! I have just compared the size of the 55" ES8000 and its only 1.75" bigger each side!! Missus said as long as its in the same ball park size wise then she is fine with it....55" here we come :D
