Will I soon regret buying a GTX 680?

I had a very poor experience with CF 1Gb 5870s. I get far better min FPS with the increased VRAM. I would say that you really need the 2gb that is on the reference 680, 1.5Gb minimum. The 3gb on the 7970 is probably overkill but hey ho.

There's a well known poster on forums whose sig always makes me laugh. 3Gb VRAM or GTFO. Yes, it's a joke.

Mal has stated many times that he does not have the funds till June/July...maybe by then, something will be out for him to be happy with ;)

i might have the funds earlier, that is if i can sell a couple of paintings at the Winchester art market this sunday, or over the following few weeks.

but i'd still wait, because there is no way i'm getting a card right now if these new cards are out soon, i'd be crazy too.

i.e i think the GTX 690 is out in two weeks time..... according to the Hype

lol x4

I don't regret buying a 680, but i do now regret selling my 580 before the 680 arrived... as I've just ordered a Gigayte OC 680 as it looked like it was going to be here next week and now I have to wait 2-3 weeks huhuhuh

i just read another rumour on google about the GTX 685 and i was just about to post it up, until i realised that it was one of mine from a week ago......i laughed my ******** off :D

i thought whose that idiot called Mal x , oh **** that's me !

May I ask that gpu you've got Mal?

haha! google has a habit of bringing up my overclockers forum posts when I am asking questions and looking for an answer, but not got all the info I was hoping for :D

i've got an old GTX 8800, to be honest it's not a bad card, just a wee bit too old now, but that rig has had it so i cant game again till august !!!!!

unless i put my old card into my new rig below, but i dont really want to, i hate this wait, i keep fooling around with my new pc, it's now fully soundproofed, plus new home made dust filters... i love fiddling with it almost as much as gaming, i've also fully lapped the CPU and cooler

yes i've seen quite a few of mine now, but i dont recognise many of them it's quite odd..

i think ``what's that idiot saying``.... only to realise it's me :D :D

For people who have used an older card 3/4 years the 680 GTX is fantastic. Shtty coded games never 'truly' show you what a card's capable of, the coding and the gphix engines all vary on what they deliver, 3D Max Studio and Cinema 4D show you what Gphix cards are really capable of. If your buying games all the time & change your hardware every 12 month then you can wait I guess. But if your an occasional gamer that wants to play Games NOW. Then get it now, you wont reget it for the months ahead of quality HighDef gaming bliss

oh yes i'd deffo like the 680 for sure, because you lot here would be shocked to see how bad my card is now, but i've got so used to 25 fps....

Borderlands takes 4 minutes to start, it's so slow now, Fallout 3 impossible, Crysis forget it, i just cant wait to get my new rig up and running; it'll be like being born again. ..... the lag is just ridiculous, plus i've only 2GB RAM on the mobo

my rig was only ever good once and that was when the 1st FEAR came out, i was getting 88 FPS, a long time ago now, i quite often get killed gaming because i cant detect the AI moving, this is because the image is so jerky and broken now, especially panning left to right.

i know how good gaming can be, because i can remember playing FEAR and DOOM 3, nothing like now

dude don't worry about it, i started a whole treat like this for my 7970. in the end you bought it to play games on and you've got to think of it as 20 quid a month to play games at top spec. if the card is worth 60 quid less 3 months later then don't worry you've had 3 months use out of it, and that's why you bought it. it's not a commodity it's a tool

The reason I ask is that a couple of years ago I was very close to spending £400 on a GTX480 but was then very glad I didn't when the GTX570 came out with very similar performance for a lot less money.

I'm just worried that the same could happen if a newer GTX 770 or something comes out later this year.

Edit: (I haven't bought the 680 card yet)

depends on what kind of buyer you are and whether you're Alan Sugar's son lol.

I like to see how things settle after a couple of months, not only do other non reference cards come out, but then competition between manufacturers flare up and result in price drops.

If you want to have the latest now which in my opinion only a few games utilise then go for it.

yes to be honest the money means nothing compared to the hours of pleasure it gives you, because without gaming life isn't as good, especially at night, it's just plain boring.

so if you buy a card costing 600 quid and it lasts you 3 years then this is quite good value for money.... because you'll spend far more smoking fags etc, or wasting your life down the pub every night.
