games like Empire Earth 3?

As I like that sort of games there are few things apart from Supreme Commander games that are like it.

Maybe try Dawn Of War Dark Crusade i'm finding it fun :)
 
Age of Empires Online is free to play, but you have to spend money to buy each civilization pack. The game graphics are cartooney, but fluid animation. There are some aspects of the game I like, such as equipping units with gear and searching for loot, so but the market system is rubbish and does not work well for this type of game.
Well worth downloading and giving it a try.
 
Unfortunately PsychoPigeon seems to be right in his statement that good RTS games are a thing of the past, however there are some classics that are still well worth playing.

Supreme Commander Forged Alliance
Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne
Starcraft 2 (which is one of the few new ones worthwhile)

Slightly different style of play, but still fantastic games:

Dawn of War + expansions (I think you can get the lot on Steam for ~£20)
Company of Heroes + expansions (again, pretty cheap on Steam)
 
supreme commander 2 I have just started to play this after getting off steam at xmas, looks good just ignore the bad press it got from supreme commander 1 fans and play it for what it is!
 
Plenty of period peices if you're prepared to step back in the day.

If you've not played them ofcourse, thinking along the lines of Cossacks maybe?

Doesn't transcend time, but decent game along the lines.
 
Rise of Nations. /thread.

It's a shame these type of RTS's have fell by the way side. Of you go with Dawn of War games get them from THQ site as they are very cheap.
 
Rise of Nations was great, and is probably the closest to EE series. I quite liked Rise of Legends too, shame they screwed up the multi player.
 
Original Empire Earth was better imho :D.

But yeah Rise of Nations is quite decent, Supcom too but it's a tad quicker, if you take your time ta start/don't do things perfectly you're ****ed... Command and Conquer 3 is quite fun too.

Shamefully I havent played any of the other Empire Earths, I suppose I should have started off with them but I got given number 3. It took ages to play, but I love it!

If you want to enjoy Supcomm 2, don't play Supcomm 1 first!

I'm sure it's a decent enough game in it's own right, but to share the same name as the first is so misleading it verges on insulting :p.

SC1 you can have huge epic battles with thousands of units/side stretching over vast maps, lasting hours.

SC2 has tiny maps, much lower unit caps, and is just nowhere near as epic or strategic, even a 3-4 player game on one of the larger maps will only last an hour or so.

I guess it depends what kind of game you want. SC2 is much better for quick casual games, SC1 is extremely intense and mentally taxing when you start playing at an advanced level with good players.
