Hey all, i have just sorted out my next upgrade mobile and need a little advice on what screen protector to go for.

My old mobile i used a Zagg protector which did the job okay but was a real pain applying, i want something thats clear and wont interfere with the touchscreen ect..

I searched the net but there is so many and not many decent reviews.

do you guys have any recommendations? thanks.

and available in the uk if possible :)

Do you really need a screen protector?
Using my Moto Milestone as my BB is away and the screen is flawless despite the metalwork on the phone being chipped and dented all over the place

I've never understood why people put horrible plastic sheets over their screens.

Whether there's need or not I always use screen protectors on phones. I usually buy a pack of three or more as I rarely get them completely bubble free and perfectly aligned the first time round as some are a very close fit to the edges of the screen and a slight angle can mean bubbles at the edges. The best protectors I've bought have actually been from ebay HK from where most UK ebay sellers source theirs. If applied well it's hard to tell at first glance that there's anything on the screen.

There are premium brands such as Martin Fields which I've not tried but they seem to get good reviews. So they should at the price they're sold at though!

On my old PDA and Defy+ I've needed screen protectors as I use them on the bike so had to order the anti-glare type which make a massive difference in sunlight but they will make the colours appear a little washed out.

As for cases, have a look at mobile forums such as xda where there will a number of posts and mini reviews on cases people have bought.

Any pointers to a decent anti glare screen protector for defy+? Thanks in advance :D

Martin Fields ones are good though don't help with reflections and are stupid money. I do use one despite gorrila glass as not keen to get fine scratches on the glass. Supposed not to scratch but a bit late once it does. Not like you keep the phone for ever and pretty much chuck away after 2 years or less anyway. That said there is always the phone recyclers and eblag so can pay to look after them.

As far as they go I'm not right keen on the bubble look with some 'protectors'. Mrs's iPhone has one with bubbles ... I'd have the steam iron out by now if it was mine

Ebay 300634203932 are the protectors that I bought for the Defy+ and I'm very happy with them. Took exactly one week to arrive from HK which is a first! Not shown in the picture, there's also a small rectangular cut-out to the left of the speaker hole. I think that's for the front facing camera.

Luckily the third protector I managed to fit perfectly without any bubbles!

As I said before, anti-glare protectors make colours on the screen appear washed out but that's not a problem for me considering what I use it for.

Which looks and feels worse, a horrible screen protector which is on 100% of the time or a hairline scratch on gorilla glass? That's assuming you will ever even scratch it. I've treated most of my phones terribly and I've never suffered a bad scratch.

Sometimes it feels to me like a lot of phone owners are more worried about how the phone will look after their ownership which seems bizarre.

Agree with both.

You have a fair point. I worry about scratching the glass and yet daily I look at a scratched protector on the glass .... how mad is that :confused:

I'm going to go mad and peel it off :eek:

Again, just because certain people have never got scratches on their devices (that are gorilla glass) does not mean that you aren't going to have any problems with it either even if you are extremely careful.

If you have a **** mobile that has a pretty **** screen, then not much point but if you have a lovely mobile with a lovely screen e.g. GN, HTC one X, 4s etc. etc. then do you want to take the risk of leaving the screen "naked" and possibly having an inch long scratch in the centre, which could have been stopped by a simple "sheet of plastic"?

Unless you have lots of money and can afford to buy a new mobile straight away (like Robbo :p) then the only option you have is to send it back to get repaired, which will be a week or more or if you're lucky you can just get a replacement in shop the next day........

I will just leave these here as well:

Yes, rather that than slap a layer of cheap plastic over it because then it won't be a lovely screen anymore. I'm yet to scratch a phone despite not looking treating them with kid gloves, would I have been better off with years of screen protectors? No.

Would you buy a lovely new car and then cover it in clingfilm? :D

Well you must have tried **** cheap screen protectors, because if you get decent ones especially the martin fields ones then there really is very little difference especially if you apply it perfectly, the majority of people that I see who always complain about screen protectors are generally the ones that don't take their time applying it and have air bubbles along the edges or other problems.....

So you would rather have an inch long scratch in the centre of the screen, which can't be removed by yourself, which you are going to notice no matter what than having it on a decent piece of plastic sheet, which can simply be taken off and a new one put in place all for the price of about £13 instead of ruining a £500 mobile, hmmmmmmmmm.....................

You seriously cannot compare the two, lol :p :D

You can see them and they detract from the quality of the screen in general, even scratches don't often do that.

It's as simple as that really.

Well i usually look after my phone pretty good, but on occasions i might throw it in my glove box or in my pocket with my keys, rather have a scratch on the screen protector than my new £400 pound mobile.

Those Martin fields protectors look good might try one of them this time round.

I'd rather have a perfectly fitted one on my phone than go without. That's my preference and I respect that some people don't want one on their phone. Who really cares whether someone else has or does not have one as long as they are happy with their own phone?

It's as simple as that really.

Yeah you do, if you look real close or you have a cheap **** £1 one on, but again why go looking for it in the first place, just hold and use the phone as you normally do......

I didn't even realise my spica had a screen protector on (and many other people on samdroid also said the same) and it was much worse than any other screen protector, it was very thick, the only thing, which felt better when I did take it off was that the touchscreen felt a bit more responsive, it wasn't a night and day difference and same goes for my bro's desire with a case mate screen protector (although he hasn't applied it very well so there are air bubbles all long the edges), there is no difference whatsoever in terms of the display quality being affected or the touch responsiveness.

Yeah for the very minor scratches like the one linked below, it isn't too much of an issue:

But what about these:

So do they not detract from the quality of the screen in general.........

It's as simple as that really

My advice would be not to bother, unless the phone you buy comes with one pre-installed, my Sony Xperia S did for example. Just look after the phone better, I always keep mine in my jeans pocket, screen towards my leg and I haven't had any issues at all with any of the touch screen phones I've owned. Avoid putting it in loose with keys and coins for example. The screen on my Desire was still flawless after 2 years of use.

I did buy a Martin Fields protector for my HTC Desire, but I removed it about 3 hours later as it just wasn't as nice to use or to look at.

If you're dead stuck on one though, definitely get one of the more expensive branded ones, the quality are night and day in my opinion.

i got 10 screen protector's for my iphone for £1.99 delivered and use a full cover case which also protects the glass.

im a bit anal when it come's to my phone's as i always sell them on after a upgrade, who wants a phone which has a badly scratched glass ?

both the screen protector's and case cost me less than £10,if you dont like a case or screen protector then dont bother buying them.

I have seen the cheapo ones on the bay, but always question the quality for that price, so i just about have the screen protector sorted, just need to decide whether to buy a case or not.

Who would have thought screen protectors and cases can be the cause of heated discussions lol.
