What do you do with your money?

Thanks for the laugh.

Those salespeople always give advice to go for their own terrible products. A few minutes on moneysavingexpert is all you needed.

This

Natwest tried to get me to invest into their funds, all of which had poor performance, not to mention the fees.

Pick your own and use someone like HL, works out a fair bit cheaper

Of course they advertise their own, they get commission!

Inflation 3.4%, your isa 3.5% you gain 0.1% a year..... if inflation over the year is say 4% your money lost value...

Except that you'll still have a load of cash saved you wouldn't otherwise have had. While accurate, the inflation argument ignores the basic premise of saving. Any return is a bonus.

i have been missing out on ISA.. i thought you could only save 5k ever.... and that is it. I didn't realise its per year... /noob

as for the topic: at the moment, i save most of it, spend like 200£-300 per month max and occasional going out etc. What really irks me is the amount of NI/Tax i have to give the bloody useless govt.

True, but I have an extra £750 in my account now, that I wouldn't have had if I had saved my money under my mattress.

BTW, what is the current rate of inflation? I thought it was about 5%?

That could be a bit of a problem nowadays...

True, :D, but not the essence of the advice.

I used to spend the lot, but as I've grown older and started to follow all that pesky advice one was given as a youngster, life does seem easier.

Especially the saving a little every week, there is a certain comfort in knowing that if it all goes wrong... you will be able to deal with whatever has happened.
