Hi all.

I'm waiting for the ivy bridge cpu's before I order and I have chosen most of the componants but am having trouble with the motherboard. So far, I have:

Ivy bridge replacement for the 2500k
Arctic freezer 13
8gb corsair vengeance white lp 1.35v
128gb crucial m4
Approx 500-650w modular psu (depends which is a good price at the time - probably corsair or coolermaster)
Fractal core 3000

*im not sure how to get the shopping basket to appear in the forum*

I'm struggling to pick a decent Z77 motherboard and have the following questions:

1) asus or Gigabite

2) when I have chosen which brand, which board? Choices seem to be based on how much I want to spend. I aren't using a gfx card so don't need to worry about that but I do have two monitors so will need a VGA and dvi port on the motherboard - most seem to have this.

The system will be used for office work (probably overkill but I want to try overclocking). I will probably take the CPU to about 4.5 if that makes a differnece.

Thanks in advance for any help. I'm lost in the woods on this one.

I dont think you will get much more from Ivy over 2500k performance is so close i dont think its worth it :P
And if you got cast to blow away go asus. Looks better in my opinion :D

I was under the impression that ivy was only going to be a few quid more than so might as well get the latest versions.

I don't have cash to burn but don't mind paying for quality/features

Gigabyte have native usb3 Asus have native and 3rd party (annoying tbh) other than that. It's personal preference.

I will be getting either the Gene V or the formula because I'm an Asus whore.

I have no usb3 devices atm and its not lokint that i will have anytime soon :P Asrock mobo looks good 2 :)

They are both pretty even. Baring in mind the UDH5 will have better support from Gigabyte compared to the Asus boards as Asus is meant to be quite bad with support etc.
