OK. I am looking to buy a PS2 for myself. I only want it for the Final Fantasy series ending at 12. Where can I get the games as cheap as I can? (Amazon has them at about £20 each for 7,8 and 9, and 10 and 12 are £2 each).

Once I have the PS2, how can I hook it upto a PC Monitor (only 19") and also how can I get sound from it?

PS2 has optical output for sound and of course the red/white connectors. Probably a ps compatible vga cable out there somewhere.

Jaffa, if you have a PS2 console, you can legally extract the ROM and then use emulators to run on your PC - would save a lot of hassle! I'm intending to do this for FFXII

Plenty of websites have PS2 ISO files, jsut mod your console.

I can't see there being piracy issues on an outdated console :).

I have no idea how to do that, but I'm guessing that I'd still need discs to burn games onto or is there another way of playing them now? I only wanted the console for 11 games...I have none of them YET...

Burn the games onto a blank dvd :).
Just get a slide card and boot disc for the PS2.

I know talk on copying stuff is a no-no on these forums but there is no point paying a high price for a rare PS2 game (for argeuments sake - I have no idea how much the PS2 FF games go for) when the console is obsolete.

FF7 is around £20 (PS1), as is 8. FF9 is around £30. I have them somewhere...although I suspect they are lost due to moving. :(:(:(:(

ALSO, Sorry if this topic is not liked by you mods, feel free to give my an ear full :D

are poeple really still seeding ps2 games??

anyway auction sites are probably your friend. ps2 ff games dont seam to have any real value yet. FFX was amazing (IMO as good as 7. I've played ffx and ffvii loads) but ffx-2 sucked, ffx12 sucked too (IMO). couldnt even get the the end of them because i hated them so much. although i think i hated ffx-2 simply because it couldnt live up to ffx for me :(

I was so sad when i completed FFX :( pro tip, pick the standard sphere grid system. also, if you don't want to replay it, then make damn sure you get all the destruction spheres out of the temples or you will regret it.

edit - you want to play the ps1 games as well??? omg ffvii rocks. ffviii and ffix are ok too i suppose. man i wish i could play ffvii for the first time again :( also you are screwed. all the final fantasys before x are loads of money (lucky i have multiple copies of some lol)

Jaffa Far's thread here has given me an idea - I want to do the same with later Nintendo consoles!

Firstly, can the Wii play Gamecube games?

Secondly, what connectivity options do I have for a computer monitor? (monitor has VGA, DVI and HDMI)

Thirdly, sound options? Would it be the red/white connectors as KDD said for PS2?

To the OP - I thought that PS3 is backwards compatible to PS2 and PSX so that you can play all types?

P.S. - forum rules (sticky at the top) states no emulation attempts even if you use your own ROM.

If the PS3 is backwards compatible or not helps not 1 bit. I do not own one.

if you can get ffvii ffviii and ffix for £20 each brand new then that seams like a good deal to me... if second hand then thats market value for these collectible games...

i don't think having a topic that soem people discuss ... at what the end of the day is piracy should be allowed ... whats becoming more coming is older games are being re-released on other systems ... you want them ... either buiy them legit on a 2nd hand odl console ( or new if you want to ) or get them on the modern consoles ...

never pirated a single game myself ,and hate buying 2nd hand . i either buy it new or wait till its at a price i want to pay

I'd start at 7 and see how far you get - doing all 5 requires a lot of time (esp if u do them properly)!

Very true.

With FF7 I spent ages killing emerald weapon (it is not part of the main story) as I was in school and simply had the free time to level up and get the correct materia. I would certainly do some of the side quests but wouldn't get lost in them.

I would start with FF7 too as it is brilliant.

I have 100% completed 7, 9 and 10. I sold them, like a plonker. I am bidding on 7,8 and 9 on eBay. I will get those done and dusted first before I get 10 and 12. And then after that I need the 1-6 games.
