Nexuiz

Looks good but...4x4 :( i might actually give it a go before i judge the small player count.

Reminds me of Unreal Tournament :)

I think Xonotic is what the project turned into. As far as i can tell it's exactly the same game, but just with active development. Spent a good few hours on it back in the day, not bad for free. Can get tons more than 8 players in a match too :)

I think it supports 64 player games, you'd need a decent server to handle it though. It's open source and several years old, of course there's going to be mods! :p:D

I believe this is a remake of it in a new engine?

I was also very interested in this until I noticed the 4v4 thing.

I remember playing a game called Nexuiz a while back, it was a open source fps I think based on one of the quake engines.

Is this a sequel to that game, is xonitic a sequel to that game? I'm a bit confused, so this is a sequel to the Nexuiz I played but also Xonotic is a sequel aswell?

Xonotic is a version of Nexuiz, maintaining the original open source-ness. It's a great game, basically forked from Nexuiz.

This Nexuiz is a 'sequel' to Nexuiz Open Source, made, I believe, by some of the original people from Nexuiz Open Source.

Here's what happened in short:

1. Some guy started up Nexuiz as a project and stopped actively developing, but still owned the name etc.
2. After a few years of community development (him having not said a peep for years) he stabbed them in the back and said that the name would be used for his own commercial project (even though this project was already well known as Nexuiz)
3. The peed off community created Xonotic as Nexuiz's replacement.

If true then all the more reason not to support this project.
