Not really up on the new tech, running a E6600 at the mo!

Basically I'm not liking what I'm seeing with IB at the mo, heatwise etc. So apart from the GPU, which I don't need as I'll just use the gtx470 for now, what exactly will I miss out on if I pick a Z77 mobo and 2700k combo vesus a 3770k?

Also a side question, the cooler I'm getting needs low profile ram, I was gonna go for 8gb x 2 vengeance but I can see they are not compatible.. Are there any issues with 4 x 4gb config with regards to overclocking?

Ta la's.

Usually less sticks of ram makes it more likely you'll be able to achieve a slightly higher stable overclock, but what do you mean by not liking what you're seeing heatwise with IvyBridge... I thought they were lower TDP? Got any linkage to where you saw the heat problems? (am just curious as I was considering upgrading too)

They are lower TDP.

Read this. According to the benchmarks, the 3770k beats the current 6 core i7 3960X in a considerable amount of tests.

It will also be about x4 cheaper. I've heard it'll be about the same price as the i7 2600k.

Ah, well, they're of considerably lower power consumption according to that chart then. Right?

Yes, the image you hotlinked shows lower power consumption.

You may post images providing they are hosted by a well known image hosting website, such as imageshack, photobucket etc.. Directly linking to images on other sites that are not expressly for that purpose (known as Hotlinking) is not permitted. Hotlinked images will be removed with an infraction notice issued. Unless otherwise agreed by the moderation team, images must no wider than 1024 pixels wide.

Won't he lose USB 3 support if he plugs a 2700K into a Z77? As far as I'm aware don't most if not all the new motherboard use Intel's own onboard USB 3 controller which is built into Ivy Bridges CPU?

It's part of the chipset not the CPU so I don't see why he won't still get Intel USB 3.0.

Cheers fellas.

Gonna wait and see what the score on IB when it's released and the NDA is lifted then decide.

With the 4 sticks of RAM thing is there anything other than anecdotal evidence that it holds back a potential overclock? Can't find much info on it really.

Really want the Noctua NH-D14 but it's massoooove. Any recommendations for a cooler as good that I can run vengeance ram with?

The only thing im trying to find the answer myself is the lucid vertu , as on gigabyte boards they will support the graphics card and work together the CPU graphics and the GPU card , im not sure if the sandybridge onboard graphics support this ?

Out of interest, i see they compared IB and SB and the latest heat production device from AMD the 8150, if one added figures for a i7 920 at stock, and then at 3.6 or smilar what sortof figures would we be comparing?
