EVGA GTX 570 SC, EVGA GTX 480 or HD 7850

I've made up my mind. With the 680 expected to come in at £400 or below and with leaked benchmarks showing that the 680 beats the 7970 by 25 percent then AMD are going to have to slash the prices of the 7950 and the 7970. I will probably end up buying the 7950 if prices drop. Thanks for the advice guys.

I am in the same predicament and have no idea what t get:

Requirements: £180 MAX

I can pick up a second hand HD6970 2Gig VRAM XFX for £150.
The HD7850 2Gig VRAM is around £180 new here on OC.

I'd like to run BF3 in Ultra/High 1920X1080p and min 60FPS if possible in online MP.

Going to be paired with a Q9550 and LGA775 P5Q Deluxe m/b, 8gig RAM.

7850 has more Vram than both the 480 and 570 and no doubt will be cooler and use a bit less power.

+1 Also when you oc it it apparently gets faster than the two above! And I just snapped one for 175 quid new AMD edition.

+1 for the gtx 570 SC.

I just brought my 2nd 1 of these last week now running 2 in sli and i don't know what people are on about with the noise. I can hear my cat purring on the bed whilst playing skyrim and bf3 totaly maxed out. After a couple of hours the room does start to warm up but im running 2 of them.

See this thread has made me very confused!

I posted yesterday re best card for £200ish for BF3 but as I wouldn't be overclocking due to being an HTPC as well it will have a smallish case so not the best airflow. Everyone recommended the 7850 (The MSI Frozr to be specific as different cooler and O/C anyway) which is about £210 give or take.

If I am not going to be overclocking and running BF3 at 1080p on my LCD TV with all/most of the bells and whistles on...will the 7850 still be the best if not O/C? Looking at the GTX570 I could stretch my budget to one of those as only another £20ish.

Sorry to hijack thread! but seems to be a common question people have and first PC build in 5 years so wanna make sure everything is best it can be for the money I have!

my 570 on its own wud run BF3 on Ultra at around 40ish fps high at 60.

if ur only gonna be at 1080 on 1 monitor then 1.25GB of Vram is more than enough for BF3

At stock speeds the GTX 570 will perform better in BF3.

But an overclocked HD 7850 would be better and still consume less power and produce less heat than a GTX 570.

What more do you want: fun, economy and being green! That is like being stuck in a lift with pamela anderson for 4 hours after taking a pill of viagra and she has been single for a month.

Richeh seems to be concerned about overclocking the HD 7850 as his system is going into an HTPC case so he thinks that running a stock speed GTX 570 would be a better option for BF3.

I pointed out that a stock speed GTX 570 performs better with BF3 than a stock speed HD 7850.

But he can overclock the HD 7850 to give better performance than the GTX 570 and it will still produce less heat and have lower power consumption.

To summarise, an overclocked HD 7850 will give better BF3 performance while consuming less power and producing less heat than a GTX 570.

Thank you Surveyor much appreciated. I was aiming for the MSI OC Frozr 7850 originally so theoretically this should be just below/on par with the 570 as overclocked from factory?

The small overclock on the MSI card isn't going to make a lot of difference (900MHz instead of 860MHz).

These cards seem to overclock to to well over 1GHz without difficulty and that's what you need out of them

Perhaps you should go with one of the cheaper cards as their cooler seems to exhaust at least some of the hot air outside the case.
