The time has come for my Clio to be sold so I took the opportunity to give it a good clean inside and out and then take some pictures for my for sale advert at the local reservoir. I only drove 4500 miles in the past 15 months and it was very much used as a weekend car, really enjoyable and reliable despite the extremely harsh ride.

Do babies not fit in small hatchbacks? I thought Clios etc were really popular cars for that sort of thing. My friends parents always seemed to have Clios and stuff when I was at school despite babies etc.

Infact that was the appeal of the hot hatch concept. Half performance car, half practical hatch.

What's the spec and miles on it?

Completely standard but the options I chose were the paint, wheels and cup chassis. I have only done 4500 miles in 15 months!

To an extent yes, but I wouldn't put an adult in the back of these let alone a baby. The ride in the back is ridiculously hard in the back with the cup pack.

Plus financially it makes sense to sell, maybe I'll get something more practical like a mondeo to go with my girlfriend's Fiesta ST.

I'd hazard a guess it was the running costs + baby costs which is the reason the OP is selling. Not to mention a five door version would be more baby practical too, providing that is what is being put in place of the Clio 200.

That's particularly low mileage for the term! Is it because you used something else instead of, or do you not require a car on a day to day basis?

What's the asking price and year of your 200?

I would keep it in honesty. The Clio 200 with the cup pack is harsh admittedly, but it is hardly so stiff that it is unbearable. I personally haven't been in the back of one but I could see no issue with the rear space or practicality when I test drove one.

In fairness to the Clio I actually anticipated less from it when I drove it, probably had a slurred expectation of it due to my readings of Internet opinion.

I understand the implications of having a child and the realisation of having to grow up and get a car suitable for a family, but as fox said, a hot hatch mixes performance with practicality. The cup 200 is a little more hardcore than most hot hatches but still retains an element of practicality. For the money a low mileage Clio 200 should fetch, and yours looks to be a lovely example, I would suggest considering something with performance like a focus st.

This way you get performance along with arguably a much more practical vehicle.

Unless of course you just don't want a high performance vehicle or associated running costs anymore which would also be understandable

That's it exactly, my drive is really narrow so it wouldn't be easy getting a baby in and out of this car either.

I only really used it at weekends, I use the train to get to work and the rest of the time it's been sat in the garage.

It's a 60 plate (December 2010) and I'm going to be advertising it for £12,500. I cannot find a mark on it :)

Everyone who has been in the back of the car has said it's not a nice place to be. The front is hard enough but you feel every single bump sitting over the rear wheels.

My days of performance cars are done for now, I also don't like the hassle of having to park it out the way and hoping it hasn't been damaged. I have always been very precious about that car which in some way explains the low mileage. A £1-2k Mondeo will serve me fine, I need something that I can go to the shops and lug my golf clubs around in, this would then mean my girlfriend can keep her car which I know she would be gutted to part with.

It's a lovely car but it simply doesn't fit in to my plans anymore. Time for someone else to enjoy it :)

I do so badly want a Clio 200. Yours is almost perfect except for not having the Recaros. GLWS! :)

Ahh the recaros, I was absolutely 100% sure I wanted them when I saw them as they are literally the best thing ever. However, I can honestly say that the standard seats are very good indeed and much better than they look in the pictures.

The reason I decided against the recaros was that I knew that my car would be stored in the garage and there wasn't much room, the recaros are notorious for wearing on the bolsters and sliding in/out of the car wrecks them entirely. Some dealers would replace them but some would not, I couldn't be bothered with the hassle.

Good decision on my part but I can see why they are so desirable.

Can agree with you regarding rear space - it looks like plenty of room but when you're there it's not, and getting a baby in and out isn't going to be fun. Shame, as it's a great looking car. Tempted, but definitely not sensible I'm afraid!

The ride in the back can't be that much worse than the/my EP3 CTR? I'll still have mine when I have kids, that's one thing for sure. Besides, driving over anything other than a perfectly smooth road will probably help the baby to 'degas'. :p

Good luck with the sale all the same. :)

Come on OcUK Motors, where are the "Congratulations!!!" posts???. :( :D

Many congrats!!. Has he/she arrived yet or is that amazing event yet to occur?. Fantastic looking car. Coincidentally I parked next to one of these today and it looked lush. I'm not that well up on sporty, quick Clio's but I think this was the same as your car , same colour anyway. Although it had grey and yellow Renault F1 chequered decals on it that looked OEM?.

3 door hatchbacks aren't a practical proposition for a rug rat, you can cope, sure, but it's not ideal. By the time you add in trying to get a buggy in the boot which can sometimes entail having to drop one side of the split rear seat as well as chucking in all the other gubbins that goes with carting a baby about, it can get tiresome. And as Maccy mentioned, reaching in and extending yourself to getting them into a rear fitted car seat can play havoc with your back as well.

And don't even think about trying to take baby in a 3 door hatch to your local Tesco to do the weekly shopping. It's just not going to happen. ;)
