It's been officially rolled out for the S2 on Three via Kies, but I'm wondering whether its worth installing and risk bricking my phone?

Not that I'm suggesting its indicative, but there was some YouTube video from some guy saying how disappointed with it he was, seemed a bit sugglish, no Flash support, that TouchWiz wasn't very good etc.

I don't have any issues with 2.3.5 - everything seems to work fine, but I'm wondered if ICS is just generally better all around or just much of a muchness?

Any views?

Been using ICS rom on my sensation for a while now and love it. havn't updated to official sensation ICS update but have seen it on my dads sensation, and it doesnt look as good as my rom. dont think i'll update tbh

I would never go back to a 2.3 rom after moving to ICS.
It's a significant improvement speed/stability wise and I just find it so much nicer to use.

I despise touchwiz and all Samsung roms on the Galaxy S1 have been a disgrace, but the community released ICS roms without Samsungs vandalism are fantastic.

Edit: As for the no Flash support... Did the guy in the video install Flash? :| No issues with it here.

Well, I finally installed ICS 4.0.3

Just seems like much of a muchness TBH. Not seeing any major differences or noticeable improvements. Voice recognition seems more accurate? Taller fonts, slight menu changes, minor graphical tweaks, scrolling via the browser seems more slugglish......all rather underwhelming.....

Standard Samsung ICS is very much similar to 2.3, they've butchered it. :p

Without modifications, it's a huge improvement but they've updated the base software and then dragged it back so it looks and operates far more like Gingerbread. :(

My nexus s received the update a week or so back. To be honest, little difference from 2.3 in my experience. Some minor ergonomic improvements, similar battery life, but the unlock screen seems to have lost the mute option (at least in my hands!) which is a backwards step imo.

Overall - meh.

had the update over 3 via Kies. Nothing to write home about really. Messed up the contacts a bit.

The visual aspect of it is slightly different but really nothing much to say about it.

The battery seems to last a bit longer but maybe its just my impression

This tbh.

Maybe I just don't use some of the features that have been implemented but for phone / text / mail / web usage there is zero difference from Gingerbread.

Yes the Gmail client is better but that's it for me, can't say I've noticed anything else that's even slightly better.

There's a reason why the visual elements are mostly the same, similar reasons to why Apple don't revamp their UI every year. Most people will be alienated or question it if anything major changed. Saying that, most of the changes are under the hood apart from the obvious Google apps.

If you wanted something totally different, get a new phone, or upgrade.

Who said anything about the visual style? What I'm talking about is actual functionality.

The browser is certainly laggier from my perspective and a step in the wrong direction and some of the features that were added such as resizeable widgets and home screen folders are just under whelming.

The voice recognition software is also still less than useless and totally unusable for me. However that could be because I'm from South Yorkshire.! :D

Face unlock, Cloud Integration and added camera effects are not features that I personally felt I needed from an OS update, however I understand they maybe useful for others.

If its any consolation - and by common consensus - you're not missing much!

Yup a real old build, The only decent thing to come from it is the modem. On the other hand the newer builds have been nicer but obviously not changed looks wise compared to GB.

ICS (pure) is considerably better than GB on my SGS2 and even more so if you install a Kanged ROM.

It's beyond just visual changes all round from Gmail to Calendar and the updated dialler.
