Guild Wars 2

This ^

Is why I liked Guildwars 1, I could play and take breaks unlike WoW when I played that I had to get the most out of that one month fee being tied to the game. I probably will never play a SUB game again, I like what they are doing with Guildwars 2 and it is easily the best MMO made to date.

Unfortunately as much as I love Guild Wars 1, until it's been released and had a few months to stretch out, you can't really say it's the best MMO made. Going on beta footage and perhaps a short time to try it really doesn't show a thing. Only potential at the moment.

It's important to remember that with pretty much every MMO release there are people saying and thinking it's the best MMO made and then it turns out to be kinda *****.

While I agree, going by GW1's standard, what they've learnt from that, what we've heard so far and the fact that this really is the only developer that has had massive success with this business model I think it's fair to be excited and actually consider this as something different from the mould of subscription based WoW clones.

True but been sub free helps in making the most accessible MMO out there and for some like myself that is very important. I have over 3000 hours logged on my GW1 account because the PVP was amazing and I like that I am able to go back and just get a few more points for HoM.

Absolutely, I can't wait. From experience, however, I'm trying to hold off lauding it as the best thing ever until I actually get my hands on it.

Of course. I'm not saying that it's not going to be good. I love all the features it is promising, and they are very much attractive and if they are implemented properly (other than the lack of sub fee which will always be a fantastic thing) then it could very well be one of the best MMOs to have come out.

If you think BLizzard's Wow has been running for 7 years, with an average of 10 Million subs, each paying £8 per month ...

Sorry, you are wrong. You make a very known mistake when you assume that all subscibers pay 8 bucks/month. The truth is, more than a half ( mostly the chinese players btw ^^) pay only ~2$ per month. :D

However, Blizzard made a lot of money with WoW. Imagine that the core development team of WoW has a size of just 24 people.

Yeah I just gave it as a rough average, I wasnt being 100% accurate.....but the point still stands......the sub money and the money made from each game and expansion, far outweighs the cost to develop new content and maintain the servers on their server farm.

GW will hopefully prove that moving forward.

So what classes are people leaning too? I've always played a caster as my main, so may roll elementalist / necro. Its so damn hard when every class looks great! :)

Guild Wars was released April 2005. If it wasn't making a profit, the servers would've gone down long ago but they're still up so I assume it's doing fine.

As long as the game doesn't go pay-to-win, I don't see the problem with it and since GW was always centred around being fair, I can't see that happening.

It does bring the hope that this might be a WoW killer (yes, I went there :D) since lots of people that disagree with monthly subs will play it, people that play WoW will hopefully try it because it's just the one off fee etc. I don't have anything against WoW, I played it for years, but MMORPGs are becoming a bit of a sad state of affairs where the majority are copying WoW rather than trying their own formula. Hopefully this template will prove that you don't need to pay to play and you can still produce a great game.

I know!

My fave was ranger in the original and it looks fun in this so I'll probably try that (Longbow at singletarget and range, axes at short range and AoE!) but mesmers are such a unique class that they'll definitely be worth a try.

Hell, all the classes look exciting and unique. I'll end up trying all of them, ranger was my main though in GW (as far as mains go for PvPers that can reroll a character in 2 minutes and have full skills and armour).

This is the plan so far. >:-)

Human Elementalist, Charr Engineer, Asura Guardian and Norn Warrior. :p

I know of a few friends rolling asura first so I'll probably end up playing them first.

Im gonna roll Necro.....the only class I didnt play in WoW was a Warlock, so id like to give this a try :)

Necro is nothing like warlock :) A warlock gets one pet to control, a necro can potentially have none or have up to 12 (I think) without losing anything. I guess some aspects are similar to affliction warlocks, I wouldn't expect to recognise anything though.

In the original GW there was minion factory builds in HoH where necros could have hundreds of minions going into a PvP fight xD

The bigger difference will be that necros cant directly control their pets which is a shame.

Probably going to roll warrior or elementalist first, not especially a fan of casters but the added complexity should make the game a little more involved.

Necro to start then maybe a hunter or thief.
Whats this barkman thing?

I also read the digital Deluxe had a portable bank, Im hoping these are available in game at a later time. Was there any explanation as to why GW2 wasn't using the NCSoft Master Account system?

Also the accoutn management is shocking at the moment lol

Still wanting a DL link for client if anyone has one, even a torrent to it would do :)

as for the above queries, I ran a few diff builds in GW1 on my Necro.
The minion spam ones were great fun, specially for farming lol
Really like my dot/hot builds too

The portable bank has limited use, 5 days if I remember right. So considering how limited use it is, I wouldn't expect anyone else to be able to buy one, as after they are used up deluxe users are no better off for bank usage than standard users.
