Guild Wars 2

The bigger difference will be that necros cant directly control their pets which is a shame.

But necro pets are disposable. I don't know if you played the original GW but necro pets play a very different role than lock pets in WoW.

In WoW, a lock without their pet is crippled. Obviously a demo lock is almost completely useless but even an affliction or destro lock is severely hampered if their pet is down.

In the original GW if a necro lost their pet (even if they were speccd for pets) they could just summon more easily, it wasn't the end of the world if they died. In GW2 the pets look like the "bonus" skills so even without pets, the necro would still be able to use the majority of their skills to full effect.

It was a pain when suddenly 20 of your pets died because you forgot a heal or they were just losing hp too fast, always funny though. It's a shame there's a limit on necro pets in GW2 (there wasn't one in the original but the longer they survived, the more hp/s they lost so you couldn't keep them up for ages even with a monk helping keep them alive), no more minion armies. hehe

So what classes are people leaning too? I've always played a caster as my main, so may roll elementalist / necro. Its so damn hard when every class looks great! :)

My main was a warrior in GW1. Most likly warrior again. It's been my weapon of choice in the betas anyway.

I must admit though Mesmer which was great in GW1 are interesting. Actually also the Guardian... and the thief which is like the assassin from the first game. Actually the ranger looks nice too.

Agh, well I will roll one of each for sure but for now Warrior since I get to use my lovely huge fellblade with my huge armour.

you need a corpse to make them, until aura of the lich was changed, big problem if they die and your not killing the enemies :p

there is a limit now, it's now 2 minions plus 1 for every 2 ranks of death magic you have, it stopped the huge infinite minion armies we used to have but it's more than enough as it is now, i can remember early guild wars hall of hero battles with suicide necros and silly huge minion armies before the gates opened :D

Pah, a couple of suicide monks/necros and you were never short of corpses ;)

Sucks there's a limit now. Most of GWs has changed, I logged in yesterday and saw a friend I've not spoken to in 5 years (literally, I had 5 birthday presents on all my characters). He told me a build to use in PvE and I only had 4 out of 8 skills xD

I wouldnt want it to play like a WoW lock.....they are similar in the sense they are a magician of the dark arts......just like the thought of playing one.

I don't think any of the classes are gonna play like WOW classes. In WoW all the classes ended up very similar, particularly offensive casters (with the exception maybe of spriests). It looks like they're all going to have a unique feel in GW2. :)

Charr/Norn/Human Warrior as a main character most likely (always a fan of a physical heavy hitter to get straight in). Followed by a Sylvari Thief, Charr Engineer and a Human Necromancer (my first GW1 character was a Necro).

Guardian/Mesmer I reckon but will decide in the Beta events. I love the way the mesmer can split, blink and stealth with so much fluidity.

Fraud check passed, thankfully. :D

I was looking at the warrior too as the people that im playing with, are all going range.. They gonna need someone to tank and swing at stuff :p

They gonna need someone to tank

There are no tanks in GW2. Judging from the community in the first game, and how the classes in the second one are going to be, if you go around typing 'Tank LFG', you'll only get mocked, laughed at / ignored even. Good luck finding groups!

No one wants a player in their group for GW / GW2 that stands around absorbing damage, it doesnt even work because the AI in GW was written to target whichever party member has either:

A) The lowest HP, or
B) The lowest armor.

Im sure that the AI in GW2 will be similarly written to completely disallow tanking / drawing agro from other party member mechanics. Even if it was possible to draw all the agro, it would still kill a warrior, the armor value differences are meaningless for tanking, compared to using the right skills (Earth elementalist = strongest damage reduction on yourself in the game, but even then you wont be a tank and will still die with too much agro).

The most useless method of playing in GW1 was by trying to be a tank, and it will be in GW2 as well. The only purpose that tanky builds served was for keeping yourself alive for the survivor title, and even then the best tank in GW1 was an Elementalist.

BTW I just got my copy of GW2 pre ordered for just £32.10 from Game using up all my reward points :)

It even said in stock, though I dont know if they are participating in the pre purchase early access stuff, but at that price I'm not bothered.

Same here, tho i'm not a great MMO player and Mesmer looks a little cluttered for noobness to comprehend.

Go with something that's out of your comfort zone. I've gone from buffing support and action regen [SWG], to healing support [LoTRO] and now to DPS [SW:TOR], i'm always willing to try something new in any new MMO that i play, rather than pick the same/similar class in every MMO, it's boring imo, and i also pick classes that use light or medium armour, makes things interesting.
