Bit of an odd one for you,

I placed an order for a pair I Oakley sunglasses and UPS say they are comming Tuesday morning (today, since it's past 12oC).

However on the tracking it says it has left Dublin - Ireland and has now arrived in Koeln - Germany.

Do you think this is procedure or a shipping error?

Thanks
Evoss

That doesn't sound good... It is possible that they are shipping them via Germany for some reason, but god knows why...

To be honest you're not going to be able to get in touch with anyone about it until tomorrow morning (company wise) so you might as well wait and see what the tracking info is like then.

I have had packages sent to southern UK from China only to be sent to Poland before up to the north of England,

Don't worry about it, it will turn up on the estimated delivery date

This. I had a package still in the Netherlands at 6AM apparently but it was still on my doorstep by 1PM.

Last time I ordered from oakley, they sent my glasses to some random guy, and I got his.

They sorted it quickly enough, but mistakes do happen.

I ordered stuff from oakley before and the package was originally sent from Germany by UPS, as that's where their European headquarters are. The Dublin bit is confusing though!

Gets more and more odd...

Reading the list, Irish Republic is the sending depot, Germany is the European hub, so all European traffic will go through Germany before being sent to its final destination.

Nothing untoward, it's just the way the major carriers work.

As above - if you'd ordered it from TNT for example, it would have gone Dublin -> Liege -> East Midlands -> Southampton > Out for delivery.

It doesn't make economical sense to fly a plane directly from Ireland to the UK - it will be flown to a European sortation hub along with all the other freight exported from Ireland and then get split up from Koln.

It happens with coffee too.

Shipments from e.g. Brazil will hit mainland Europe first, then a 2nd shipment from there will divert some of the coffee to the UK. This is why it is cheaper in France than over here as it has been shipped once instead of twice to here.

Oh, and post 3000 :-)
