hi all,

really hope someone can help me as i have x2 of these cards:

Sapphire Radeon HD 7770 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express

I only have 2 monitor and 2 atx tower, and i would like to build x2 pcs with hopefully the same parts. i don't have a massive budget but it can be stretched to £600 they are going to be mainly used for gaming/surfing.

massive thanks for any help im given

Hi there and welcome to the forums :)

May I ask why you specifically want to use the HD 7770 cards? Do you already have them or are you drawn by the good performance/power usage ratio or something else?

Just to confirm is that £600 for both systems and will you be needing the operating systems and peripherals (mouse, keyboard, speakers etc.)?

Finally, you say you have two "atx towers", may I ask what the make and models of these cases are - so we know how much space/cooling you have to work with? Also, what is the resolution of the monitor?

2 x XFX Pro 450W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £41.99 (£83.98)
2 x Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler (Socket 939/AM2/AM3/775/1155/1156/1366) £19.99 (£39.98)
2 x Kingston HyperX Blu 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9AD3B1K2/4G) £19.99 (£39.98)

assuming £600 for both systems. can get slightly slower cpus and overclock to save some extra money and get it under budget.

You don't actually need the CPU cooler, so you could spend towards 8GB memory instead.

It is a good upgradeable platform.

However there is no gaming with that. You would need two decent GPUs (6850, under £100 each) to go with it.

sorry for not getting back guys, yeah i was recommended those so i was about to buy them unless there not that good ?

was buying them cheap off a friend brand new as unwanted parts it doesn't need !!

Ah, I see. How much is he offering them to you for?

The HD 7770 are pretty nice cards as they are low-power usage, quiet and perform relatively well in games (slightly below the level of a HD 6850). The reason you won't see many people recommending them is becuase they generally sell for more than a HD 6850, while perfom slightly worse. However, if you are getting a nice deal on them then they may well be worth going for.

Also, as you would be buying them off a friend - did he buy them new and if so is he willing to help you sort out any RMAs should anything go wrong with one of the cards?

Could I just ask again to clarify,

- Is the £600 budget per machine or for both?
- Do you need an operating system (ie windows 7) included in the budget?
- What are the make and model numbers of the cases you have available to use?

£85 per card ...

And yeah afraid the budget is £600 to sort both comps

Those cases support ATX which is good.

Two options:

Better CPU, cheaper motherboard:

£85 sounds good for those cards, if they're willing to sort RMA should there be any problems I'd buy them :)

Ok, here is a spec which is pretty much on budget:

The HD 6770 cards are just placeholders for the HD 7770s you will be getting for about the same price.

If you don't need the budget to include the graphics cards, then beejjacobs' i3 build would be the one I would go for.

awesome info cant thank u guys enough :)

i would be kinda silly to get a graphics cards without a warranty wouldn't i these days lol, so if i was to spend £100 on each card which would be good please?

Yea, if your friend can't help you with an RMA then you may as well buy a new card with a proper warranty - for the £100 this card is what I would go for.

Though I would go for the XFX 450W PSU that beejjacobs picked as it has two hard-wired PCIE power connections, while the corsair 430W only has one.

So does the £600 include the graphics card or not? The main differences between specs are the motherboard/chipset. The main difference is how long the machine can be upgraded, my machine will take one of the new ivy chips so in the future you can upgrade for the cost of a CPU so it will last a bit longer than an h61. But the h61 is the way to go if the gpu is in the £600 budget.

I would agree that the Z77 boards offer more longevity - as they support CPU overclocking, SATA3, crossfire and in many cases SLI and PCIE x8/x8.

However, both Z77 and h61 boards support the new 22nm Ivy Bridge CPUs, so if you wanted to do a CPU upgrade further down the road then the H61 would accept one of the new chips - though it won't allow you to overclock it or have the other cool features Z77 boards offer.

You should be able to get two i3 2100 systems out of £600. You could save a bit of money by going for 4gb of ram instead of 8gb.

You could also consider secondhand or b grade components to cut costs. There are some Gigabyte Z68 boards in the clearance section for £61.

To give you an idea I have just upgraded a mates PC from an AMD 3200+ to i3-2100 for £180.

Z68MA-D2H-B3 motherboard £61
I3-2100 £74
4gb RAM £10
Sata DVD Writer £13
Sata HDD 320gb £20
