Undecided 680/7970

100 pounds if you get the 10% code inc delivery and 3 games its an awesome deal! I was all set to buy a gtx 680 nut at this price I had to get the 7970

Wouldn't surprise me if the 7070's drop further, you can get them in the US for $449 already and since their RRP over there is $479 they have already had retailers dropping the price under RRP.

more like 21/25ths

Yes the TWO card is 84% the cost, my point being saying something is a fraction of the price of something else in common language means a very low fraction. Someone can technically say the 680 is a fraction of the price of a 7970, that fraction being 6/5, doesn't make them less of an idiot :D

And as we speak the TWO card has gone, back to 87% :D

Ok, let's just say the 7970 is a percentage of the cost of a 680 :p

Im in a similar boat.

I have a 6990 i want rid of due to the heat, noise and the terrible crossfire scaling in BF3 at 2560 x 1440.

I have three screens although i only game on the central one. I have had to stick with AMD for this reason but i read the 680s can now do this without having to use 3d surround and two cards.

I do not want a stock cooler i want quiet and cool so im looking at the MSI 7970 Lightening edition which is only £20 less than the MSI twin frozr 680.

the 7970 looks to be on the same performance at its increased clock speed and from reviews looks like it can easily run 1200mhz. I've not owned an nvidia card for my main rig since my 8800 Ultra SLI days so im swaying towards the AMD.

Yeah i realise new stuff will be out by tomorrow but i meant in terms of survivability i'd like it to run for 3 years and thats why i want 3 years warrnty and EVGA and Zotac would be perfect in that sense.

Also i think that buying mid range every so often is a false economy, if i buy mid range and do this often then I will end up spending more. If i buy top of the range now i buy every 3 years instead of every year or 2.

YES mid range are themselves too expensive to buy too often, this is a false economy.

a top end card is far more likely to last the 3 years, a mid range will definitely feel too old in a year, it feels too old now !

hmmm depends. A 7850 for instance should last about 2 years gaming. (obviously not maxing out settings)

Then upgrade. In two years its quit possible to see Dx12.

If you spend £400+ on a gpu, to make it worth while you going to have to keep it for £3-4+ years, in that time the technology the card supports is old hat.

You could say buy a 660 (when its out) now and in two years get a 860. Probably for around the same price as the 680 currently is.

A the mid range buyer will have kept pace with technology whilst the 680 owner is ****ed that his £400 card cantdo Dx12 or shader model 6 etc etc etc

I don't think a single 680 nor 7970 will run BF3 multi-player at 2560x1440 consistently smoothly with options at Ultra
