diferences between these two z77 boards

I think the main differences are:

- More robust onboard cooling and power system (whether this affect overclocking performance remains to be seen)
- 2 more SATA3 ports (using a marvell 88SE9172 controller)
- more USB3 ports
- displayport connection to the onboard graphics

This might be a silly question but.....

If the SATA3 ports in the Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H uses a marvell 88SE9172 controller, would that mean a crucial M4 SSD will perform better with this mobo than the Gigabyte Z77X-D3H?? and if so, will the increase in performance be noticeable?

Just bought a few pieces for my new system including 128gb M4 SSD but evaluating which Z77 mobo to get.

The Marvell controller's aren't great. On both boards there are SATA3 ports native to the chipset [i.e. Intel ones] which will be best for your M4 :)
 
Sorry, I should have clarified, I was just mentioning the extra things the UD3H board has over the D3H. In terms of SATA3 the marvell ports are in addition to the two SATA3 Intel ports. Therefore, if you have one (or two) SATA3 SSDs, then you would be best plugging them into the Intel SATA3 ports before using the marvell ones.
