Got a really annoying one here, mrs sold an item on ebay, buyer receives it and files a 'not as described' with paypal, then says its an empty box.

We show proof of weight and delivery but paypal dont care, and are going to withdraw the £270 from her bank card, even got a dodgy email saying cheers for the free item from what I guess is a throw away email account, which paypal doesnt care about.

I cannot remove the card from the account while we try to sort this, is there anyway to block paypal from accessing the bank while I argue with them?

Seems a bit of brute force is the only way to get their attention.

PayPal are absolute ******* jokes! Had the same problem a few years ago when I sold my old Xbox 360 and there is nothing you can do :( Also having problems with them now as they've take a grand from my account as an "echeque" which I cancelled before the money was withdrawn from my bank account and now I have a grand gone awol

How was the item sent? Recorded, Special Delivery?

It's a pity there are morons out there looking to scam items from sellers. Was it a mobile phone or tablet by any chance?

Surely if you have proof of weight shipped and can also provide the sarky email saying thanks for free item when Paypal retreieve the money from your Cc just do a chargeback?

Either that or call your bank and advise them to decline any payments to paypal?

Until its sorted I woudl ensure you get everything written

Will be interested to see how this turns out. I guess you have the buyers address. What you do with that I do not know. Would the police be interested if it cannot be resolved?

I'm going g to ring the bank tomorrow and see if its possible to deny any PayPal payments.

the item was sent special delivery. and it shows the weight on the receipt. though PayPal don't give a monkeys. same issue with the email I cannot prove its them so they don't care.

amazing how PayPal seem to just ignore everything I've said.

ill keep you posted on the outcome.

I'd phone Paypal and not get off the phone until it's sorted.

As far as what the bank can do, Paypal normally take by direct debit, you can cancel that yourself through internet banking. They'll also have a backup source, all you can do with the backup source is cancel the card completely - even still it may not prevent the transaction going through.

Sorry to hear about this, Pij :( I hope PayPal finally come to their senses and realise what these people are doing to you.

If ebay/paypal won't sort it out:

https://www.moneyclaim.gov.uk/web/mcol/welcome

If you have evidence of shipping weight + evidence they claim the box was empty aslong as you sent it with some kind of insurance option you can probably claim from the courier (tho that kind of sucks if the other person is a scammer) or more hopefully get a court order against them (tho good luck even then getting any money/item back).

say you lost your card

I won't condone lying to the bank... but you can say that you believe someone has your card details. If they ask you to elaborate, just say you think someone has noted down your card details and you're worried that they put through fraudulent transactions. That should get your card flagged as lost/stolen and stop further transactions.

You have his address. Pay him a visit?

Yup that's exactly what I would do. This is happening far too often and eBay/PayPal are enabling this scum. Even if it's going to cost you money to drive or get the train to turn up on their door to put the frightenes up them will be worth it. Maybe they will think twice about doing it again. At the end of the day they have your property and they havnt paid for it and you should have the right to get it back. Should be like most companies do. The property remains yours until paid for in full.

Yeah, because if you turn up at his door he won't be able to shut it in your face and ignore you, leaving you emasculated at his front door.

Is this not just a long winded case of theft? Or at least obtaining items by deception. I would if it was not to far away contact the local police and tell them the story they might take pity on you and go and help you retrive your item if you have the proof at least but I would also do as said above and cancel any cards/account you have linked with paypal.

If you get nowhere with paypal/ebay id be inclined to contact the police. you have evidence technically and they cant refuse to look into it!

Paypal/ Ebay are a complete joke for legit sellers, i used to sell on Ebay but i stopped when i seen constant reports of buyers conning sellers.

Hope you get it sorted OP
