What do you do with your money?

Without sounding like an "auld fart" Some of the comments on here is reflective of the "I must have" consumer society

Yeah ok you can get knocked over by a bus, but the reality is that you probably won't and if you don't save or have a really good pension, you'll be in old age with nothing but your government pension to live on and that'll be next to nothing!

Even if you're 21 you should be trying to put £50-100 a month into your pension pot to have any chance of it being anything close to bread level by the time you retire. There will be a lot of old people in the future with little or nothing to live on and it's their own fault for not saving some more when they were young.

The sad reality is that most people will just keep on working until they die. Also I don't have much faith in a state pension existing when I reach retirement age, too many people claiming not enough working.

I'm hoping I won't end up doing that but at the minute I can barely afford to pay the bills let alone save for "future me".

In my experience people seem to think they should either pay into a pension or come up with a compelling reason why they can't. When they reach retirement age those compelling reasons are worthless, and nobody is going to listen to them.

Pension. Put into a company pension if you can.

I put in 2.5%, company puts in 5%. Tax free. So it costs me approx £125 to save £625 a month. Utter no-brainer really.

Think I pay about £80 a month into pension too, not included in the above.

I can get through that easily in one night out so it seems stupid not to put a bit into savings before I **** it all away

well as I dont have and cant get a job currently, I dont have a lot of money.

basically it goes on, cigerettes, a bit of food, very rarely buy anime dvd/manga, mabye some booze but not every month, an when i get my bike back on the road petrol

At the moment as im out my flat and living with gf's parents im managing to save £500 of my wage, plus money i win in betting.

Have about £300 to spend in the month on whatever after bills.

Sort of saving for mortgage but also trying to start a business with my brother

Nearly every person I know on benefits smokes or smokes some weed!

I gues it depends on how much you earn to how much you save.

Me making £1200 can't save as much as the guy making £5000 a month surely? Then again my outgoings should be nowhere near as high as I don't have a big mortgage or a £50k motor.

Well i work nights, dont have much of a social life anymore so dont spend all that much. :p

But the usual,Rent & other living expenses and sometimes the occasional pc upgrade but dont go mad on it.
