ASUS GeForce GTX 680 ASUS DirectCU II TOP - the fastest and coolest 680 so far !

wow extra 4fps on BF3 for what will be probably be an extra £100..... no thanks. Release a 680 that allows voltage increases and I'll take it for sure.

EDIT: Extra 10fps on Crysis 2 when overclocked. Nice increase but I still say not worth the extra money. nVidia are magic with Drivers, we'll eventually see Drivers that will do this for us anyway.

:eek:Wow, considering how the 680's/7970's rip through today's games, would you take the hit and hassle to replace your 680 for a few extra fps that you won't even notice if you switch fraps off?

You must be an etailers dream customer.:D
 
Of course it's going to run cooler - it's a three-slot card. Even when overclocked to 1367MHz it only managed an extra 3fps in Aliens Versus Predator (52 to 55), which only amounts to a 5% increase (without taking into account the margin of error).

It's great if you're only ever going to buy one card, are happy to pay over the odds for it and value low fan noise above all else. Even among enthusiasts this card has limited appeal.

Yeah, it gets worse and worse the more you read about it, features that, aren't simply added in software, they've built in hardware protection you have to effectively break, to use the features you've spent more to have in the first place?

if I'm paying £100 more for a card with voltage control, I don't expect to have to risk breaking the card to enable it, otherwise what's the £100 for?

My 7950 is going back because, its never that clear from pictures but the heatsink size, for something that is a full slot thicker than most cards, is pathetic, completely pathetic.

My 7950 is silent at idle, and very quiet in most games, but break a certain not particularly high voltage and unlock the TDP and heat starts to rise stupidly quickly. Basically if I get a 3 slot card over a 2 slot card, I expect more or less a full extra slot of heatsink, not a full slot of space between the fan and heatsink(while there is some merit to a gap between the two, a thicker heatsink comes first, then trying to make a small gap(which could be done by allowing the shroud to have a default position flat to the heatsink and can be attached further out to get a gap).

For all intents and purposes they've created a gap, made the whole card look beefier while offering no better thermal performance over cheaper two slot designs. I'm massively disappointed by the 7950 asus CU, the 7970 appears the same though hasn't cheaped out on vrm/memory cooling and backplate, and the 680gtx, I'd expect the same.

This gen, the VTX's, and sapphire's, Gigabyte windforce's seem to be the way to go, same/better cooling, without the stupid price, without the features you don't need and won't use.
