The MSI Lightning is at a good price now, and performance does compare with a 680.

Considering this i think i will go for this, but how are the drivers, have they matured enough or are some people still having problems. I think XLAndy recently said he had enough of it and sent the 7970 back.

I couldn't say about drivers with the 7 series cards.

The MSI Lightning is still £70 more than the cheapest cards and offers little in the way of extra performance.

The only benefit is that it seems to run a little cooler and quieter than the reference design cards.

Crossfire drivers atm are not great but bearable for most, if you're planning on one then get it! They're great cards.

EDIT: They seem to clock a lot better than reference models, so if it's on special and you want it you might aswell.

Your currently running an 4890. Dont you have first hand experience of AMD's drivers?

The thing I find about AMD is that you get about 1 years development on each series and then they switch focus on to the next series of cards.

In other words, no more performance improvements for previous series cards, simply bug fixes.

AMD still can not hold a candle to Nvidia when it comes to Drivers. In reality they are **** poor.

Its about 2 years as BF3 is better now on my 5970 CF than when BF3 first came out.

Having way more troubles with NVIDIA 680 SLI than I did with 7970 CFX. BSODs and issues with remote desktop.

Actually AMD CFX has been pretty damn solid lately. Way more usable than SLI has been for me. Still working through those issues.

I must be about the only person here who's never had any probs with ATI/AMD drivers that I can recall. Some obviously give better performance than others but never had any of the serious probs some ppl here have experienced.

i disagree.

they do improve performance for previous series cards. just that they may not list them in the driver release notes

I have/had both and know that AMD drivers are nowhere near as good as Nvidia.

Well he disagrees with you.

This is PC with near unlimited combos of components and one brand may behave better with someone's set-up than the other.
What if i slap 2 NV cards in my setup and get constant TDR.

me too....

never had a problem with the drivers

Never had a problem with ATI/AMD drivers, even changed cards from a 4890 to 69950 and the process didn't bother it, just a quick re-install after an un-install.

It'll be a cracking card mate, I'd say get it if you want it.

12.2 was a mess for my 7950, but 12.4 seems to be the best so far. On the other hand, for my previous cards, the 6850 and 5770, all drivers were pretty much rock solid stable.
