rx8 engine rebuild

Well i just bought the car a month ago, for a ridiculous low price ( i know stupid me ) and now i have problem with compression and lack of power.

This is common with RX8's unfortunately. The rotor tips can wear out at around 60K miles. How many has yours done?

just to take the thread slightly OT

but whats the common replacement lump instead of teh wankel?

Thank you for that, i drop a email to them as well.
75k so far...

75K is pretty good going. At least you got the car cheap. I bought mine 3 years ago with 50K on the clock and paid 8K. By the time I had done 4K miles in it, the engine was showing clear signs of tip wear. Started with hot starting problems, misfiring on idle, stalling and power loss. Mazda fobbed me off with an uprated starter motor and refused to fix the actual problem despite having 12 month warranty.

All this left a sour taste in my mouth, which is a great shame as it was a lovely car to drive. Had to get rid of it in the end at a huge loss :(

That is a big loss. I will see how much they will charge for the engine if is to much i will sell it on we buy any cars, they offer £1200.

would be interesting to find out how much to drop an s2000 engine and box in there,

i'm sure it would probably work out cheaper, depending on who does it.

Seems like a sideways step at best. LS1 or SR20DET, you know, something with a big torque spread and a bunch of power.

so flawed how could Mazda release it like that? the rx7 has an excuses its got twin turbos on it and is much older tech.

would you get more back by breaking the car for parts?

I ended up selling my car to the garage after the warranty company refused to cover the rebuild as it wasn't a toal failure. Engine rebuild would have been ~£3000 plus other bits such as a replament Cat etc worked out to ~£4000. Cosidering yu can buy a car with rebuild and warranty for similar money I decided to cut my losses and go car less.

A great car but never again, terrible economy for the performance you get, at least with RX7s they have a lot more go and it's pretty much defined that they need a rebuild at 50-60k mile, RX8s seem to have been sold with the line of "don't need a rebuild" but many of them do and the mileage seems to vary and probaly isn't helped by previous owners buying one without knowing anything about rotary engines.
