Thinking of buying the B-Grade 580 that's for sale over the 6970

£239 inc VAT for the 580 and £210 or so for a 6970...

Thoughts, opinions, anyone bought B-Grade before?

Many thanks for your help

Also, before "google benchmarks", I actually have, but there seems to be a lot of discrepancy over which is better, in terms of temperatures varying between brands, power-draw and performance between different games, as-well as the age-old ATI vs Nvidia..

580 is better, cant comment on B Grade section as the only time I tried to buy one it mysteriously dissappeared from the site and Ocuk didn't tell me until I asked days later, wasn't a good experience.:)

I bought a B grade Asus 280GTX for £150 a few years ago just after Overclockers had been selling them on special for about £229,

Never had any problems with it and thought it was an absolute bargain,

I also bought a Z68 MSI mobo for £80 instead of £135 at Xmas and was surprised at how well it looked, still in original box and complete with all the accessories, Again no problem whatsoever,

I am always looking at their B's to see if the are any bargains to be had, You get 90 days warranty with Overclockers and then the remainder of the manufacturer warranty i believe.

A 6970 crapping out its guts through its mouth (IE around 1ghz) is about level with a stock 580. That was about the best I managed to do with the 6970 Lightning I had, which was pretty much dead even with the results Vortez got in the review of the Radeon.

So the 6970 is a card that should be compared with the fair comparison, and that is the 570 which it manages to beat ever so slightly. But it doesn't even stand in the same room as a 580. Well, not if you overclock both cards.

What would concern me is why they are B stock. If they are simple returns then fair enough. However, if they have been baked in a reflow oven I would be suspicious of their longevity.

I can tell you now that the 580 is conclusively the faster card of the two.

Thanks for your help guys. Ordered the 580 as it seemed too good to miss as-well as an extra 6Gb of RAM. Very excited to get it into the system and get gaming again!

I bought a B-grade EVGA GTX 580 3GB for £300 from here a few weeks ago. Mine arrived in the original box with all the original accessories - including the poster with it. I was also able to register for the 10 years warranty with EVGA for free - has to be done within 30 days of purchase. The only thing that was wrong with it is that the box was ripped. I'd go for the GTX 580, I'm extremely happy with mine.

6970 doesn't beat a 570 in most games, what have you been smoking?

6970, hotter, slower, uses more power.

...And that's even compared to a 570, what on earth is all this talk about a 580? The 580 wasn't even supposed to compete with it. The 570 was (but didn't)
