Does anyone suffer from Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV)?

I have just been diagnosed with this condition and will see a doctor soon about what happens next. Really weird condition that made me thing I may seriously be ill, but it turns out this is somehow common. I only get the odd dizziness when I tilt my head back and it lasts for a couple of seconds, or when I get out of bed in the morning. It started off last Wednesday when I got out of bed and my room was spinning like hell, I really got scared. The rest of the day I spent in bed worrying but it eventually cleared up the next day. Nothing too nice but apparently it can be treated. :)

Does anyone have any experiences? And this is by no means a medical thread, just wanting to see if anyone has come across this condition :p

You may just have an inner ear infection if it 'just started last Wednesday'.

And, yes, the effects of vertigo produced by inner ear problems are terrifying. I don't expect more than a handful of people here to know what it's like though.

Nope, but I did have vertigo for six months a few years back. Couldn't stand without swaying, couldn't walk without looking like a drunk. Ended up dropping out of a HND while the doctors tried to work out the problem. They assumed it was something neurological as my dad suffered a massive brain hemorrhage. 5 months into my problems I had a cat scan turned out I had a massive sinus infection. A course of strong antibiotics later problem solved. Still have occasional bouts of it now, but this time the docs listen when I tell them I can't breath through my nose. Even though the ENT specialist told me vertigo can't be caused by my sinuses.

I once got tetris effect from counter strike, everytime I walked into a room I would check corners.

Check those corners!

I have it, self diagnosis ofc, when I was younger I used to wake up in the night or in the morning sometimes and the room was spinning , had to rush to the toilet to be sick , I have not had any such extreme symptoms recently but I do get a small bit every now and again.

If its bothering you I found having your pillow stood up against the headboard of the bed/wall and sleeping lying on your back helps, you should have a "good side" which means when you lie on a particular side you dont become affected so much.

I had Vertigo about 18 months ago. I'd started having the symptoms over a few days usually after reading in bed. I wasn’t too concerned, then one morning it really took hold. I didn't know what it was and was quite worried. My wife drove me to the Doctors and he diagnosed Vertigo (Black Sabbath's record label?) and said that the symptoms (he was telling me) could best be described as walking on a spring mattress on a pitching ship whilst drunk!

They certainly know how to live it up these doctors!

One week on antibiotics and I was up and running.

Apologies for slight thread necro.

A few days ago i awoke from a sleep and sat up in bed only for the rest of the room to sit up a few seconds later.
At first I thought it was because I'd had a *very* heavy night and i was just hungover but it has persisted.
The vertigo only happens when I tilt my head in a certain way or when I'm turning over or getting out of bed.
I haven't been to the docs yet but have been watching youtube videos on a simple and safe technique that is supposed to help clear this problem, it is called the Epley Maneuver.

Have any BBPV sufferers used this technique?, did it work?
Cheers.
