looking to upgrade my cpu and board, is going to a 6 core worth it as the more powerful games get released?
but i know theres a huge increase in price between the AMD and intel chips.

are the intel really that much better in performace for the money?

i use my machine for gaming and abit of the usuall internet browseing etc..

shall i go to AMD for the price or do i wait and pay HUGE amount more for intel

cheers

Intel processors are miles more ahead than AMD currently. when you say 6 core do you mean SB-E? if your only gaming it would be a big waste of money.

Yes it is my pc spec, I just feel that it starting to struggle in games, I was playing c&c generals and it started to get choppy :/
Or could that be my 480? Feeling to upgrade that or to get another :D

Sorry missed your reply!

Hmm, well its almost certainly not your 480 - at 1080p that should be plenty :)

To better your 760 you'd need an i5 2500K at least!

I'm not familiar with that game, and can't seem to find a good performance review. However you have well over the recommended spec! If its anything like Forged Alliance (supreme commander) then even a better CPU wouldn't necessarily help as it could just be the game itself. Being an old game it's unlikely a newer 6-core CPU would be utilised by it too.

This is my thinking aswell.

Command and conquer generals is almost a decade old game and certainly won't be utilising the new or recent technology efficiently. It's likely a single threaded game so as stated above won't be making use of additional cores.

Lol :p

i5 760@4GHz and GTX480 struggling in command and conquer generals!!?? :D

Sounds like and unstable OC to me.

Potentially worth backing the OC off a little. If it helps, great! If not, Back up and try and new instalation another drive. Your drive could be causing you some issues if its getting on a bit.

No.

Your i5 will not struggle with games for a long time (talking at least 3-4 years here), especially not with a 9 year old game like Generals. Intel Q6600's (possibly overclocked from 2.4GHz to 2.8GHz) can still hold firm with new games (2011-present) provided you have a decent amount of ram and graphics card.

What I have read so far is that hex cores are not going to give you anything over decent quads for gaming at the moment and your quad is decent.

Generals is a piece of cack and should'nt be used to judge any pc's performance. My rig is similar to yours and i am not struggling at anything at 1920x1200.
