Socket 1156 motherboard upgrade

Hi all,

I currently have a Xeon 3450 (essentially an i5-750) in a Supermicro X8SIL-F board, with 16GB of ECC DDR3 RAM.

The motherboard obviously doesn't allow for overclocking, so I was toying with the idea of finding a more mainstream socket 1156 board, as I would like to get back into gaming.

My concern is, will a desktop board run the ECC memory? I have the following add-in cards:

AMD HD6450 (will be upgraded to a 7850 if this plan works out)
TBS 6981 DVB-S2 PCI-E x1 card
Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 PCI-E x4 card
Silicon Image SATA2 PCI card

All of this runs in a Fractal Design XL case with a Corsair HX520 PSU.

Assuming that this will work, which board should I be looking at?

Thanks :)

Sell it in MM or somewhere else, then get yourself a 1155 board, either Z68 or Z77 & a cpu.

Yeah I think that's ultimately going to be what I end up doing. I was trying to avoid spending £150+ on a CPU, since I have to change the board in order to overclock.

I think I'll try to squeeze another year out of this rig and then upgrade to Haswell. I've got a laptop that plays games so I'm not totally stuck.

I also made the same mistake going for a 1156 system, was going to flog it, but ended up giving to my sister, was perfect for her uses..
