How many miles does your car do to £20

Do you have to be so pedantic regarding every detail, it was just for a rough comparison between cars, not everything has to be accounted for to the penny or minutest decimal point - just wanted a rough idea.

I notice that's the second time you've asked that question about the £20 so it must be bothering you, no, I just fill up as and when required.

Fox is not being pedantic, he's quite rightly pointing out that measuring fuel consumption based on a fixed monetary value of fuel is utterly pointless. Not only do fuel costs vary significantly across of the country, but £20 only gets you about 3 gallons of fuel. How you you accurately determine when this 3 gallons has been used if you always fill the tank up?

In the early 90s I had a 3.0S Capri that would run much further on £20 than my parent's Civic Hybrid. How has car technology gone backwards so much?

If anyone is interested my Triumph Speed Four (motorbike) does about 120 miles to £20 fuel (a full tank - paying £1.41 a litre). Which is circa 36mpg. Mostly town driving followed by fairly rapid country blats.

Well for £20 I would get 3.02 gallons of fuel (diesel at 1.459ppl) - rounding to 2DP.

My car (335d) is currently average 38mpg in mixed driving so I would be able to go 114.74 miles.

Or I could just say my car does 38mpg.

EDIT: Of course realistically I wouldn't own a diesel if I was only putting £20 in at a time. This week the car will cover a minimum of 350 miles (70-75 miles a day for my wife's commute depending on route taken) with 400-450 being more a more realistic average once weekends are added in. Using the same calculation I will have to stick in around £75 of diesel to last an average week.

According to FuelLog I would get 246.8 miles from £20 using the average cost and mpg from my last 5 fill ups.
