30th anniversary of the ZX spectrum !

1982.. I have to admit i thought it was a few years earlier.. I never had one myself but my mate did. I remember how amazing it seemed and how it eventually lead me to a career in computing.

Does anyone remember buying the Spectrum magazines and trying to type in the free games contained in them? Hundreds of lines of code that occasionally had a typo in or you'd typed a zero instead of the letter 'o' and the game wouldn't work..fuuuuuuuu!!!

Halcyon days...

Whatever did happen to Ocean Games?

From Wiki : It was acquired by Infogrames in 1996 and renamed to Infogrames UK in 1998, and again in 2004 to Atari UK, and once again in 2009 now known as Atari, Inc.

I had no idea, especially that Infogrames had aquired them.

Loved my spectrum, really got me into computers. I still remember the feeling of accomplishment at programming a spider to drop down a thread on the left of the screen, run across the bottom and go up the right side.

Commando, Attic Attack and Lords Of Midnight were 3 of my favourites.

Seem to remember a Sherlock Holmes 'adventure' game as well. The name escapes me. It was one of those text adventures. That was quality. Thinking about it, it may have just been called 'Sherlock'. :p

Can anyone name another 'text adventure game' which featured a puzzle in it about 'Charles Atlas'. I seem to remember there being 'ski lifts' in it or similar. :|

There was one game I really enjoyed playing but I can't for the life of me remember what it was. You were in some kind of ship travelling down a load of futuristic corridors and some would have webs in the way. I can't even remember what the game's objective was.

Holy ****, I've just remembered the name after nearly 30 years. God knows how I got this from my memory banks!

The game was called Valkyrie 17 (1984). I remember giving up on it because I couldn't get the 'Charles Atlas' clue.

Came in a lovely box:

Weird how I can remember something from 28-30 years ago yet can't remember what I did yesterday! :)

Does anyone else remember 'Crash' magazine? Aptly named.
