hi guys, im trying to link my 15.6" laptop to my 22" LG 22LS4R via hdmi. this works fine when linking to my 32" panasonic viera, auto detects size etc and comes straight on. I'm having no luck with the LG , when i plug the HDMI in the laptop screen goes black as it should the LG thinks about it then just says "No signal" ive tried messing around changing aspect ration from 16:9 to 4:3 and went through every resolution on the laptop and it wont pick it up

am i missing something?

cheers.

It seems that that TV has a native resolution of 1680x1050 and an aspect ratio of 16:10 - which is quite different from a standard 16:9 1366x768 or 1920x1080 HDTV.

I would suggest trying 1680x1050 via HDMI (as a second display, not cloned) and see how it works. If you don't get any joy, then I would try it with VGA (if your laptop has that output).

hi mate thanks for your reply, yea I had a funny feeling it would be something to do with the TV's dodgy resolution size, how would I set up the second display for 1680x1050

if I get no joy I think I will just sell the TV and get a 100 quid monitor its only to supplement why laptop when I feel like desktop gaming

ok so I got new laptop and linked television VIA hdmi, it recognises the make and model of the television, I set it as a second display , all working so far, until I try to change it to its native resolution and just get a 'no signal' message from the telly.

so basically it seems it can show various resolutions which look ridiculous but not 1680x1050.

I have a VGA output on the laptop but only an 'RGB (PC/DTV) IN' on the back of the tv.

is there such thing as a VGA to DTV cable because my searches are running up dry

Have you tried setting the TV to "PC mode" or similar before changing the resolution to 1680x1050?

Have you tried connecting the VGA to the PC/DTV input of the TV - that connection should work (VGA is RGB/PC).

May I ask what the make and model number of the laptop is?

Changing to pc mode means it will be using the VGA so hdmi is not gonna be any use there. Just got a VGA cable today from work I'll try it tonight with the tv in pc mode, having read the manual today it purports it can display 1680x1050 on hdmi and as high as 1920x1080 via VGA. I will feedback tonight

Laptop is medion x6811 with an nvidia gtx 460m and latest drivers
