Guild Wars 2

Give it a rest with wondering whether it will beat WoW, instead ask yourself whether you like the game or hate the game, and if you like the game then play it, if you don't like the game then don't play it, that's all it should come down to.

I couldn't give a **** if my MMO is a WoW killer or not, i like the game.

They did that with GW1, it was nowhere near a WoW beater.

It was still the second best selling online game at least.

Because it was made by 5 people in someones dorm...

you serious? It was made by the same people making GW2, mostly consisting of ex Blizzard employees.

Arenanet was founded by, and GW1 made by developers who previously worked for Blizzard, but hated the direction that they were going in with WoW.

Ok let me be a little more accurate….. I hope GW2 has the sticking power to hold its players and not end up being the same old story of…. “Didn’t like it so went back to wow”!!! Which imo justifies the title of “Wow Beater”

And you Wes’ are a prime example of someone who picks up and drops games like there’s no tomorrow haha!

I get bored easily when it comes to online gaming since SWG and MOH:AA, although SW:TOR is entertaining for me as i like it, and my mates play it as well, i just can't stick to online FPS', but GW:2 does look promising, so i look forward to giving it a whirl this weekend.

I bought GW1 on that basis. It was said that the developers were ones who were involved with Diablo which was enough for me to buy the game. The major factor, and I guess true in GW2, is the lack of monthly fee.

Which is what I’m saying… Imagine you liked the game but it didn’t have the power to keep most of your friends playing, which forced them to go back to wow, like SWOR did with some of our members!

No I was not being serious at all, thanks for pointing out the obvious.

Mike O'Brien

He founded ArenaNet 12 years ago. The men whose dream he shared, co-founders Jeff Strain and Patt Wyatt, have moved on. Back at the beginning, five guys made the first Guild Wars from O'Brien's apartment. Now 270 people are making Guild Wars 2 from a huge studio that took a year to build, spans two floors and used to belong to travel company Expedia.

GW1 was actually made by just 5 people????

The people they have working for them now from what they started with is just incredible.

I doubt it was just 5 people from start to finish when you have to consider coding, art work, marketing etc. but it started off that way.

The client took me 1 hour to download between 300KB/s and 2MB/s. 13.3GBs large.

Good to hear, hopefully that will make people more at ease.

Still got plenty of time to download the client even if they release it on thursday.

If it becomes knows as a "WoW beater" it won't be from sub numbers, but more likely from introducing a number of new conventions and systems that are so wildly popular that it becomes the norm to include them in any new mmo, much the same as WoW did (which wasn't always a good thing).

Hopefully it'll be the game that stopped people thinking they had to copy WoW to be successful.

This ..but aahh the wow kiddies must always bring everything back to wow, if you enjoy the game and there is enough bodies playing it the rest does not matter, well not for me anyway.

So loading up the game (I just had to :)) it asks for account name and not email address. Will the account name require the extra 4 digits and the full stop?

I'd guess so, as it states this in my email.

"This is a unique account identifier, consisting of a name and a randomly generated four-digit code. You'll use it during the Guild Wars 2 Beta Event, on the Beta Forums, and in Guild Wars 2 after launch. "
