Hello all,

I've recently upgraded my late 2011 build Macbook Pro's RAM from 4GB to some Crucial 2x 4GB to give it a bit of extra power. At £35 I thought it'd be rude not to..

The question is, what to do with the original sticks? Do I chuck them out or are they worth something? Is it best to keep them for when I sell?

What have you done with your surplus sticks of RAM?

Kept mine in the box the 8gb came in and put them in the MacBook box in the attic.

When I sell, I'll swap them back over probably and sell the 8gb separately I'd have thought.

DDR3 cheap at the moment but you never know, prices may rise!!

I sold mine as soon as I upgraded to 8GB. Unless you can use them for something else no point hanging onto them. If I had I'd probably forget I had them until they were obsolete! :D

I've done this so much over the years that I try to sell stuff whilst it's still in it's life cycle as you suggest.

I still have a Pentium 2 350MHz that I ment to sell, along with a 800MHZ Duron and a couple of Athlon XPs.

I stuck mine in my iMac, giving both systems 8GB. However, if I wasn't doing that, I'd probably keep it for a couple of months (in case anything went horribly wrong), then would sell.

Keep it. They aren't really worth anything and if your Crucial stuff should fail, you have spares that you can use whilst waiting for replacements.

Gives you something to use as a test if you start getting problems as well. I think you'd only get a tenner plus shipping if you were to sell them... I know as I briefly considered selling mine after the upgrade.
