Vertex 2e borked, what now?

My Vertex2e is still going strong after 2 years (apart from the write speeds have halved since new). Though in light of this news i am now worrying..

The problems with the sandforce drives were largely the standard sandforce firmware, which the intel 520 doesn't use.

If you Google you'll see that whilst Intel's firmware helps, they haven't fixed the problem totally.

Sounds like your drive needs garbage collection doing.

My 2e is completely reliable at the two year mark (knock wood) but how do I check the performance at this age ? If degraded ? How do I refresh the drive, given it's got the OS on it ?

my 2e died a couple of weeks ago, just under 2 years old.

RMA was easy enough but they are sending me a 2. These format to 60GB as opposed to the 56 or whatever the 2E had. But they are a bit slower apparently.

Went bring the pc out of sleep mode this morning, and just froze.
Did a reboot and doesn't even recognise the drive in the bios at all anymore!
Been reading up and it seems a very common problem, between vertex and sandforce controller.
Tried swapping cables around and other drives.
Other drives already in pc work fine.
Asus p67p8, i5 2500k, 4 gig ram.
Not a happy bunny!
Is there anyway to fix it, rma, but don't really want another one of these, because it looks as if it's bound to happen again?
Or a different drive intel any better reliably?
Or is it the sandforce controller?
Hope for some help!
Thanks.

Hi cub,

I suggest you try the following:

1. Detach the Vertex 2 for 30 mins or so
2. Clear the CMOS on your mobo
3. Reattach the V2 and see if it is now detected

I use my SSD in a simulated RAID with a 1Tb Samsung F4.....It's on Intel Smart Response Technology on an Asus z68 motherboard. I tried that SSD Life-Pro program but it wouldn't even detect my SSD.

Ouch!

My Vertex 2E did this, could not recognise and would not boot

I attached an old hard drive with windows on and tried messing around to see if I could save the install. Didn't work and I was going to RMA it.

However, I decided to format the drive and install latest firmware and it's had zero problems since

I read elsewhere to detach for 24 hrs, but it hasn't worked.
Thanks anyway.

Can you elaborate on this?
How were you able to detect the drive?
I also have another drive with winxp on in the machine, although that isn't working now lol

The Corsair is coming tomorrow :)

Pleased the rma process in smooth.
Just need a buyer when it comes back :)

Shouldn't really moan to much only thing I can think of that I lost, was emails and bookmarks. As anything I downloaded went straight onto a 500gb hdd.

It's just the inconvenience, when you read about it being in some sort of safe mode, and you can't do nothing about it.
If it broke fair enough, but when it's a software conflict which nobody can be arsed to fix.
Just seems very poor to me.

just done a back-up of my SEP 2010 60gb '2E after reading this thread.

Yeah I don't blame you.

Just been doing so more searching, and the Corsair might have the same problems as well.
Considering just sending it back for the Crucial marvell controller ssd instead :s

My 2E did this about a month ago, was absolutely fine, the computer crashed and the drive disappeared forever, lol.

RMA'd it and got given an Agility 3 in it's place, so cannot complain too much.
