msi 6970 to gigabyte SOC 580?

hia im getting a refund on my msi 6970 twin forzr III and am thinking about getting a gigabyte SOC 580 edition of the members market. do you think this is a wise choice?

i know the 580 has less VRam but will i regret it due to that reason, if there is a regret to be had ?

Right at this moment 1.5gb is enough. It's just about enough for a smooth experience on BF3 at ultra with 4XMSAA (at least in single player !).

That will no doubt change in the future though, but I guess it depends on what the asking price for the 580 is.

580 is still a very powerful card.

all depends on the price of that 580.
You need to be aware that the anandtech and most gpu benchmarks of the 580 and 6950/70 may have been benched with the original drivers, So there could be gains from both parties.

Also The 7850 when clocked can beat a 580 using considerably less power.

This would be my choice, brand new, cooler, full warranty and probably less of a hit in the pocket, oh and don't forget to clock the nuts off it!
