Madeleine McCann's parents

Yes but most of the other children don't have vocal middle class parents and are already part of the social care system and no-one really gives a stuff then. They were already unwanted by the people that should have cared. Why this family have not been challenged for child abuse I really don't know. yes, it was unfortunate what happened but if you leave children of that age and you live on a council estate you have social services take a real good look at your ability to be a parent.

actually i think that is more the reason the media ran with it. They can be "oh save the children poor maddie" in the articiles but that would get boring fast and not get sales the fact that there is a conflict of "poor parents having their child stolen" and "evil/neglectful parents killing or losing their child through negligence" means there will always be debate, it will always be a talking point and people will want to read/hear about it gaining views and sales.

Yes, the media do that but what action has been taken against the parents. None. I am not saying the other kids should have been taken away because that rarely happens now even in cases of actively known abuse but serious flags should have been raised and if they were that would not have been kept quiet.

They looked pretty happy when they were shown on tv, in the posh end at Wembley for the Everton vs Liverpool FA Cup Semi Final.

my god make it stop please......
im sorry and all that I am, but **** me 5 years and nothing - its about time they stopped wasting money and just admit that they ****ed up and it cost them their daguhters life.
as sad as that may be.

As much as part of me has to agree that £2 million of tax payers money spent on this is a waste I can't help but think about what if it was my daughter? I'd be quite happy for the UK government to bankrupt itself in funding a search for my missing child.

It is hard to imagine what I would do if it were my child, however I'd like to think I'd reach a point where I'd mourn the loss and try to get my life back on track.

I imagine the guilt, knowing deep down it was all your fault would make that difficult.

Absolutely, when you've lost a child you should never be allowed to have a life after that.

How can you mourn someone who might not be dead?
I would imagine it would be far easier to get on with life if you knew 100% your child had died than the thoughts which go through their heads every day.
And no, I don't think they killed her.

She's dead, they killed her and are now playing the game whilst cashing in. Eventually they will be charged with murder.

Wish they would just move on. As grim as it is to say, they aren't going to find her after so much time.

I can't imagine the pain they must feel, but surely constantly dragging it all back out in the open can't do them any good.

My thoughts exactly.

I don't really have an opinion on this case, even though its so well known. I would not like to cast judgement on something I know little about.

What we DO know is that the child is missing, regardless of how/who/when, its a tragedy, but dragging back up old cases like this does nothing but aggravate things.

I also believe they killed her, although not intentionally. I don't believe that they are trying to cash in on her death, it seems to me that they are trying too hard and something does not seem right. Sure I have never lost a child but it's something that happens fairly often to rich and poor family's yet the constant push that she was abducted and so publicly after this many years seems odd to me.

I could be totally wrong, but there is something that seems a bit odd which I can't work out why.

They are so slimy, why they have never been done for child neglect, leaving a child alone in an apartment while going out having fun? Granted it was only a short distance but still someone managed to break in and take Maddie, total joke how they are seen as GOOD parents because they wont give up looking for her.

My family went on holiday with the niece she was about 4 and someone always went home at night with her to put her to bed and stayed up in the apartment or went to bed, you cant have kids then expect a child free lifestyle.

Why can't they just let it die (no pun intended)? To honest I have not really formed an opinion on the case after I read a draft of the Portuguese detective's book. They did interfere a lot with the case, even going so far as to get the British Police to tell the Portuguese Police to back off when they were "grieving". There have been a lot of strange things that have happened during this investigation which do not exactly paint them as loving parents. - According to the book (which was an excellent read BTW if you know where to look - don't think it was published) At the same time I do not believe they did it.

Does anyone think that it's all a big fraud. Who in the right mind would leave there daughter or son on there own (young daughter or son) and go for a drink without going back to check.

If it's a fraud they've done it well and made a lot of money. I suspect they will have paid someone to take her and say she is missing.

Yes it's a conspiracy but it makes sense in away.
