UEFA Champions League/Europa League 24/25/26 April *** Spoilers ***

Hmmm from what one of the lads at work is telling me, is that Terry will get a medal if they win due to him being in the squad for most of their group games.

I understood it that they made enough medals for the manager / assistant, a handful of coaches and the team / subs that played the game.

I was very happy for Chelsea last night, simply because they beat Barcelona.

I was especially pleased because it was the spawniest win the history of spawny wins.

Good on them.

I still hope they get murdered in the final.

I've just had a quick search and from the comments made my Stephen Warnock in '05 (played in the run-up to the final but wasn't in the matchday squad and didn't get a medal, but others in the same situation did) and the 30 medals thing MooMoo posted, it would appear that the club get given the medals and it's up to them to distribute them.

If there's 30 medals then after the matchday squad, manager, coaches etc take theirs, there will be another 5-6 left over. I think it's safe to assume that Terry will get his hands on one of them. With the amount of suspensions and injuries Chelsea have, there could be some senior players missing out though.

Amazing how many fans start posting when their team do well!

Hahaha.
Not really amazing. There's no obligation to post on an internet forum during the good times and the bad. The natural feeling when your team has lost a game, or is generally playing poorly, is to try not to dwell on it; the natural feeling when your team has won a game, or is playing well, is to talk about it, or to revel in it.

Given how ultimately futile any kind of discourse with a bunch of strangers on the internet is, especially in a subject with such divisive views as sport, it can hardly be compared to being a "fair-weather supporter", or the kind of person that'll stroll around town in their team's colours only when things are going well, as I imagine your post was inferring.

As much as i dont want Chelsea to win the final, absolutely despise their team, Terry and their owner...it wouldnt surprise me in the slightest if they manage to beat either Bayern or Real.

Dont worry Chelski fans, i also hate Utd and City with an equal passion lol.

Don't worry, most of us hate the Gunners with a passion equal to yours but hey we all love each other. :p:D

Are people still moaning about Chelsea?

I think a few people need to accept that when it comes to attacking football, the Barcelona team is head and shoulders above everyone else. Chelsea simply cannot match them in that regard. They would just lose, horribly. Look at Real Madrid and their squad, and they are forced to do the exact same thing.

Manchester United tried to mix defence with attack in the final last year and Barcelona just kept breaking through and deservedly won the game. Granted they had Villa who is probably their most dangerous attacking player after Messi, but Sanchez and co aren't exactly poor. Football isn't all about playing like Barcelona and scoring goals, it's about using the squad you have and playing in a way that means you will win. That is precisely what Chelsea did. They had the odds stacked well against them thanks to the utter stupidity of John Terry as well.

Are people forgetting the fantastic Ramires goal as well? That pass from Lampard was as sublime as almost anything Barcelona tried last night. Top drawer, as was his pass in the first leg. The finish was incredible as well.

Yes, Chelsea were lucky too. Barcelona weren't at their best and had Messi scored that penalty, it would have been game over I think, but he didn't, and that's all that matters.

It was a real makeshift defence keeping them at bay as well, not like Inter Milan who had Lucio/Samuel (I think), being shielded by Cambiasso, who is probably one of the best in the world in his position - Mikel is not.

As for chances, Kalou had a great chance to score and fluffed it because of his inexperience, had that been Drogba or possibly even Torres Chelsea would have scored again. Ivanovic missed that easy header too.

I think it was one of the best games I've ever seen, as do many others, and that really proves the point that this game doesn't always have to be about attacking. Good luck to them in the final, it's going to be a real struggle with the suspensions/injuries they have. For some reason I thought suspensions due to yellow cards are removed for the final. Is that the World Cup?

Torres scoring to seal the victory was just the icing on the cake.

I think this post sums up the game for a neutral and describes why football is so amazing.

That 90 minutes just shows why virtually every football fan loves football so much.
A team, widely hated, goes to the home of one of the best club sides in world football. One of their centre backs gets injured early on, the other gets sent off, and then they go 2-0 down. An absolute tonking is almost nailed on.
Then suddenly, a goal from nowhere gives them hope. What followed in the second half wasn't so much a team knocking on the door, but going at it with an axe and screaming "Heeeeere's Johnny!" Suddenly, a penalty. The best player in the world steps up...and misses!! Somehow, with a depleted back line, tiring legs, and facing a relentless onslaught from one of the greatest attacking teams ever seen, they hold firm. Neutrals see this, and slowly start to think "they can do this." These thoughts turn to support, cheering on the plucky underdog competing against impossible odds, and holding their own.
Then, in added time, they break. It comes to their striker, a man vilified all season, a former great missing chance after chance, mocked by rival fans, a subject of derision. In one swing of his leg, he puts his side through to the final of the greatest cup competition in the World, beating the best team in the World. A price tag justified in one moment.
Football. Bloody hell.

Barcelona had pretty much 100% possession in the last minutes and were relentless, it seemed like it was more of when then if Barcelona would score. So that goal sealed it.

Barcelona didn't look like scoring for the last 25 mins except for Messi's strike. They were just passing it in a little D around the box creating nothing.

Something stupid like 83% possession compared to 17% possession for Chelsea.

But as Shami said, Barca just faffed around the box passing the ball around and trying to make something happen..but with Chelsea defending as they did, all of them behind the ball....it was going to be very difficult for Barca to break them down.

When Messi missed that penalty....from there on, i said to my Barca supporting mate...i dont think Barca will get thru to the final, guess i was right.

Maybe but it was the last few minutes of a very important game. Even if it was against some rubbish team the last few minutes of a match are bum clenching time when the opposition are on the attack, never mind against Barcelona where it only takes 5 seconds for one cheeky through ball/flick or one of there many world class players to make a individual effort to score a goal. Obviously we won't know if they would have scored but Torres stopped the chance that Chelsea could lose.

I do think its harsh to stop players playing in the final for yellows. I very much doubt they will remove them though.

Reds should stay tho.
