See! They do eat dogs!

Some people are really sick in this thread. Unless you have raised a dog you don't know what you're talking about.

Dogs are something that people can treat like a real person without having to deal with a real person. Its painful listening to people talking about their dogs as if they are real people with personalities and "looks".

Its a dog; it doesn't make funny faces, it doesn't know you really well, its not really intelligent and your house does smell of dog regardless of your own inability to smell it.

If you won't eat dog on a matter of principle but you do eat other meat then you are a hypocrite. Just because that pig doesn't wag its tail and greet you at the door for food when you get home in the evening doesn't make it any less intelligent or worthy of your mercy from being butchered for food.

It does look horrific and very cruel.

But it is true that we would tuck in to a yummy hamburger or hot dog, whilst protest at the inhumane treatment of the dogs in China.

Its just different cultural norms.

What can we do.

Maybe the vegetarians have a point after all?

We treat chickens no differently..

I think it's an urban myth.

dont bank on it how many have travelled to the mid, far east , africa and not exactly known what they are eating and there have been a few cases of restaurants being caught out with various meat sorces here you only hear about the ones that get caught it happens.

Agreed, and I think I'd rather have a piggy over a dog as pet tbh,
awwwwwww, how can you eat this.

They do make funny faces, they do know their owners, they know when your sad, happy, angry with them, want to play with them and much more. IF they're not intelligent why are they trained to save lives?

You are mistaking hypocrisy for seeing animals for what they are, some animals are smarter than others and sadly we kill certain ones for food. I would never eat whale meat. A creature that has survived for over a hundred years, surviving all the dangers the sea had to throw at it to be killed by harpoons and end up as a burger is a horrible fate for such a creature.
I wouldn't eat a dog because I see them more intelligent than a sheep, pig or cow, yes dogs are animals but they're much more than that they can save lives, help people by just being there giving and receiving affection.

Cows, pigs and sheep are incapable of these things and it seems like you have never raised a dog or know much about them. You should educate yourself on them before commenting as you only look foolish.

Are you dumb? I go off to work for 3-4 months at a time (without a dog), when I come back my house smells clean and fresh and my dog goes mental when she shes me. I'm not really sure what you mean by funny faces but when my dog is sad because it didn't get some food whenever I've prepared iit, she makes a frown look and whimpers. I'd also rather have a pint with my dog than you.

If its just as moral to eat a dog as say a cow or pig is it also just as moral to eat a fellow human? whats the difference? what makes us special?

Nothing, it's just cultures. Some tribes, or at least tribes that once existed, do in fact practice cannibalism.

There is no such thing as ethics or morals, it's all subject to the cultural demands of the time. Westeners on the whole will put humans and fluffy animals on a higher pedestal than farm animals, eastern cultures tend to put a lot of animals on the same level. This is not to say there aren't exceptions, cows in India for example are a highly respected creature.

I don't like the idea of anything being killed, but I've learned it's a sad fact of life. Nature beyond our control has the cruelist conditions of all.

In the animal world death is everywhere you look, so many species being hunted and eaten alive every second. Too many nature documentaries have scarred me :)

On one documentary I remember a group of Comodo Dragons stalking after a buffalo. Obviously too small to take down a buffalo; one dragon takes a chunk out of it's heel. Weeks then go by with the dragons still stalking their prey, patiently waiting day after day until the buffalo becomes so weak it cannot move and lies weakened in a puddle of dirt. The dragons then start licking this buffalo ready to dine. The commentator then explains the buffalo didn't make it through the night.

This world we live in can be a very very cruel place. a lot of people do not realise what happens out there everyday in the real world of survival.

Don't be so moronic. The vast majority of pet dogs in the world are kept in clean, safe conditions, are well fed, have access to veterinary care and are happy.

I wasn't aware you were a clairvoyant, one who can read the minds of dogs no less. How impressive. Or to use your word, how moronic.

Clean and safe conditions have nothing to do with it - these dogs are bred to be docile and to lose their natural intelligence and instinct, purely for the pleasure of humans, and what's more they get the very essence of existence, the ability to mate, taken from them too.

Always amuses me how 'animal lovers' in this country are usually colossal hypocrites.

LOL dumb much?

As long as you treat the dog with nothing but love and provide for it then the dog will have a better life than it would in the wild.

If a dog is upset and doesnt want to live anymore it will stop eating an refuse to eat, which is extremely rare.

Again, speaking for the dogs, amazing all the Dr Doolittles we have on this forum.

So a cloistered inbred and utterly defenceless (by human design) poodle in some dismal granny flat will have a better life than a wild dog on the plains of Africa, free to hunt and mate and to live free.

Right.
