Using the superhub and a TL-WN722N adapter.

Should be getting 60MB download but anything connected wirelessy isn't, only get around 20-30MB :(, thanks to the crappy superhub no doubt.

Blown away:

:D

I'm currently on 30mb (due to be upped to 60mb shortly). I've just seen that for an extra £7 a month i can upgrade to 100mb.

Trying to do it online they state a £50 engineer fee. Is it not just a case of flicking a switch somewhere or is extra work required?

Phone up and get it done, I didn't pay any activation fees but they still send an engineer round I think even if the engineer does naff all or a rubbish job of "setting" it up.

I might go for it. My sons started paying for Netflix and i said i'd pay half. So i might say i'll upgrade the internet and call it even.

Could probably do with an engineer checking out our second line aswell in the bedroom as we've always had problems with that and even replaced the Tivo box to no success.

So to those who have had their speed doubled and were having overutilisation/jitter/packet loss issues, are your problems resolved post upgrade?

Where is the price of the different packages on VM site now?

I'm on holidays and due to come home on sat evening and I noticed that my bill increased so I must be on 60mb now having been on 50mb? Didn't know they where upping them to that and I think I am due to go to 100mb in June.

Just wondering what the new pricing is as my last bill came out at £40.25 and I was on 50mb which I'm guessing is now 60mb ?

And using the package builder in VM site it was coming out at like £27.50 for 60mb only?

What are other people paying for the 60mb?

there's a price increase completely independent of the upgrades.

and you'll stay on 50 until you're upgraded to 100/120. 60 is a completely separate package which is what people currently on 20/30 will be upgraded to.

my jitter using the superhub as a router was awful. i had to turn into modem only mode and use my linksys router to handle the router part. much better now!

made me laugh when the engineer came to setup my superhub, had my dad house sit while i was at work and gave my dad instructions to tell the engineer to set it in modem only mode and connect my wireless router to it, the guy told my dad "it is just a modem" so i came home and everythings connected into the superhub plodding along in router mode. either he couldnt be bothered and fobbed my dad off or its a worrying time we are living in when engineers dont even know their own hardware.

Engineer =! Fitter

These guys have no reason to know beyond company policy how you want their hardware set up.

since there is the option for modem only and VM themselves state the option is there why shouldnt the guy coming to install this for me know this?? just another case of bang bang and its in it will do.

he didnt even state "its a 3rd party piece of kit i cant do anything" which would have been fair enough, he simply lied to my dad who knew no better.

doesnt matter anyway i did it myself. SH **** as expected.

the £27.50 is only for new customers.

I called up & kicked up a fuss, (been out of contract for years) was paying a hell of a lot more than new customers.

If your out of contract call up and go to cancellations.
You can get 100meg BB & Phone (evening & weekend) for £17.75/month

Not so far they haven't been.

Tonight so far I have tried a new coaxial, a new isolator where the cable comes into the house, I have tried the superhub back in full router mode, I have tried direct ethernet connection to the superhub, it is appalling.

Here is my network, simplified.
networkfd.png

  • A = Asus RT-N56U
  • V = Virgin Superhub
  • HP = Procurve Managed Switch
  • S/PC = Server/PC
  • Black cable = Virgin Coaxial (including testing a new one)
  • Green cable = Cat6 ethernet cable

I've set it up this way so I can have the vast majority of my stuff under the stairs (the modem, switch, server). The router is in the front room so as to provide the best wireless signal. Could it be something I'm doing wrong, or am I just getting **** service from Virgin?

Connect directly to the modem (in modem mode) and if its still **** its VM and most likely an over-subscribed area.
