Guild Wars 2

So what class do yo plan to try out, and why?

I'd originally decided ranger, since that's what I usually go for in an mmo, but thief and in particular mesmer both sound pretty cool having read the descriptions properly.

Hmm I just went to open it and had another 58 files to download.....

then after leaving the client open for a while it crashed saying my CPU had overheated or my RAM was faulty...uhh dont think so? lol wtf

Elementalist and mesmer for my mains, plus guardian, engineer and their, maybe necromancer too.

I'll start with an Elly though.

Contemplating thief, but from what I've seen, I don't think I will enjoy the steal mechanic.

Will try warrior thief necro and elementalist. Hyped about elementalist the least but they have the most active abilities which is compelling.

I might try out a necromancer, never ever tried necro in GW1 so quite fancy it. Especially going by the videos, quite like the look of the abilities.... to be honest though i'll probably make one character of each class and race then play with each a bit to try and work out what i like most, then focus on that as my main char

I really like that GW2 will have Dynamic Events but they will be not be comparable to a 25-40 man raid.

Ive spent a lot of time playing Rift which had both and being mostly a player who runs around solo the Dynamic Events were ideal.. I could jump in and get involved with whats going on and leave without needing to speak to anyone.

Because a dynamic event is so casual they end up needing to be easy when you have just a random mix of people with very average gear/experience/ability. While they make dynamic events compensate for there being more players in an area by making the event more difficult they will also take into consideration some people are just going to stand around and not help out at all. There is no good balance other than making dynamic events a little too easy.

That's my worry.

Ultimately you could be in an event which is scaled to 30 people difficulty but made impossible because 15 of those players are just leeching. The only option is making these events insanely easy or they could be rendered impossible to complete because of others in the world. Seen this happen a lot on Rift and was frustrating to say the least.

Will be interesting to see how they manage but I must say I am not too confident on this front, expecting WvWvW to be a success though :)

From what I've heard In GW2 the ai takes into consideration who is participating and scales accordingly, people standing around doing nothing is not an issue.

This isn't a problem actually, events are designed to fail infact it's going to be relatively common and I think that makes a refreshing change. Events have a fail chain aswell as a success chain. For example:

You may fail to stop the invading thieves from taking all the silver ore from some random place and that will trigger the next event down the fail event chain where you now have to go to the thieves camp and steal back the silver ore.

So basically events can swing both ways and to me that's a major positive actually.

Scaling is determined based on player participation and how much they are contributing, not if they are standing there leeching.

Full leechers will contribute nothing, get no rewards, and not affect the scaling.

One reason this game is going to be brilliant: Every time someone brings up a possible negative someone has the answer :D
