Is there any real reason other than the obvious size difference to get the U3011 over the U2711? I'm currently on a glass Hazro HZ27WD (which is getting returned) and need a replacement monitor. From what I understand, going from the Hazro to the U2711 shouldn't be too much of a change, with the exception of the AG coating instead of the glass - but is the panel used in the U3011 better?

I'm also not totally sure on whether I'd want to go back to 16:10 after using 16:9 for so long - it just seems much easier on the eye now.

Also, are there any other monitors I should be looking at which compete with the two Dell monitors (I'd rather avoid Hazro though). My only real criteria is that if it were a 27" monitor, I'd really have to have it 2560x1440 - I've seen 27" monitors at 1980x... and I doubt I could live with it.

Thanks!

Hi there,

The panel in the U3011 is of similar quality to the one in the U2711 - both use a wide gamut H-IPS panel and both perform rather well (here is a review which directly compares the monitors in several areas).

As well as clearly being larger (see here for a visual size comparison), the U3011 has a 2560x1600 resolution panel. So the same horizontal resolution as the U2711, but 160 more verical pixels - so you can fit even more on the screen at one time. It is also worth noting that the pixel density on the U3011 is lower than the U2711 (though still pretty good) - this means that images may not be quite as sharp on the U3011 compared to the U2711 - but they will look a bit larger, which for stuff like text can be useful as it means you don't need to increase the DPI as much for text to be easy to read.

If you can afford the extra for the U3011 and have a graphics card that happily power the things you do at this resolution then I would certainly go for the U3011 over the U2711.

I want one of these too. Just struggling to justify the price for the monitor + GPU for running it. Most places tend to say both are pretty good, the only difference being the size and price.

unpacked and set up my u2711 rev a11 yesterday and its awesome i dont think i could cope with gaming on a 30 the 27 is far big enough depends what you want it for i guess. but there is no doubting the quality of the monitor which i guess is same on both not sure i would need the greater pixel area i find 2560 x 1440 plenty

May I ask what the issue is with Hazro, I was potentially looking at a HZ27WC.

I can't speak for the "glass Hazro HZ27WD" but I have the non-glass HZ27WC.
I'm very pleased with mine so far. No dead pixels. A tiny amount of backlight bleed. Fantastic picture quality. I will never go back to a TN monitor.

Thanks, I was quietly hoping the U3011 was superior in terms of panel technology, and as a monitor to warrant the additional 50% price over the U2711 - however, I think because they're essentially the same monitor it's difficult to justify it.

May I ask what the issue is with Hazro, I was potentially looking at a HZ27WC.

Well, about 2 weeks after getting the monitor, a small cluster of dead pixels formed, and now there's probably 2-3 more. However, the reason I'm actually getting it returned is because the glass has slipped - not exactly an uncommon problem for the glass Hazros. The monitor is actually excellent, in terms of image quality etc. but in other areas it's really dreadful. Quality control at Hazro is clearly non-existent, they can't even make a stand that fully supports the monitor (the monitor actually angles downwards - probably because of the weight of the glass) and everything but the actual panel feels cheap and poorly made. Getting a good Hazro is a lottery, and reading around, it seemed if you had a good Hazro upon opening the box, you're set. However, all my issues with the monitor occurred after the DSR period ended. It's probably also worth mentioning that if you do have any problems with it, don't expect amazing support from Hazro, the only saving grace for me so far was purchasing it through OcUK.

Considering the glass WD cost £500 - I wouldn't recommend getting it over the U2711, considering it's only £60 more. It's more difficult to say with the WC though - especially since they don't make the glass ones anymore and it's cheaper. However, even at £400, I'd still say the excellent warranty you get from Dell is worth the extra £160.
