Not a great deal to be honest.

I just specced up effectively the same system from OCUK parts (with a better Bitfenix merc alpha case and corsair CX 430 v2 PSU) and the total cost was £380 (with your OCUK free delivey).

Is he offering you warranty with this system or the individual components? As if you build it yourself each of the parts comes with a 2 or 3 year warranty.

If he will give you the parts receipts (or is happy to help you with any RMAs should anything break) then yes it is a pretty decent deal since the labour cost seem to be pretty low.

That said, may I ask what you will be using the PC for?

I don't understand this really, can't you order the parts then give him the items and some cash for labour, then you get your receipts and warranty and he gets some cash for his efforts?

Yea, that would be what I would do.

Though I'm unclear whether this is a system built-to-order or a machine his friend already has and wants to sell.

If he is building to order then I would strongly suggest he switches the PSU to a better quality one (like this corsair) and a larger case (like this one).

System built to order. My machine has basically died and he works for a company and he said he can do me a machine of this spec for the above price. Unsure whether its a particularly good deal or not, hence the original post.

It seems its not that great a deal.

What would you guys order for around the £350-£400 mark?

If he would change the PSU (and possibly the case) to something decent then it would be a pretty good deal (depending on the warranty his company offers). However, if he won't put in a better PSU then I wouldn't touch it - the evo labs 700W PSU is a £20 jobby that I wouldn't even put in the same room as good quality PC parts, never mind provide power to them.

From OCUK that budget will buy you a basic i3 2100 PC (again, I would ask them to change the PSU, as the 500W PSU they use isn't a good one for use with a graphics card).

Live between Warrington & Manchester. Its not that I can't build it - more of "I dont have the time" really. I'm fussy when it comes to cabling and tidiness.
