First gaming rig advice

No worries bud. Although ivybridge isn't going to be a massive leap in CPU performance it will have a much better integrated graphic processor (IGP).

Now for gaming you will use the dedicated GPU obviously but there is something called quicksync which allows software to use that "dormant" IGP to "turbo boost" encoding of movies. It makes a big difference on sandybridge so ivybridge should see even better results.

Oh I should also mention that many mobos state they have a PCI-Express 3 slot for your GPU but you need an Ivybridge CPU to make use of it ;)

AYup mate could do with abit of your knowledge plz..sorry for hijacking the thread...i have bought a pioneer BDR-207DBK ..are these the discs i shoulod get..(DISCS 25gb BD-R PRINTABLE ) i have dloaded a couple of blueray films to burn but there in mkv format ..will dvdfad durn that format...cheers

Then you've got ~£200 for the CPU :)

haha lightning fast as usual beejjacobs, thanx!

I has thinking bout the 680 over the 7970 mainly coz of the drivers, what do u think? Also I'm loving this case; NZXT Phantom 410 Enthusiast Midi Tower Case - Gun Metal, would that fit the above spec? any advice on bluray for the optical drive? cheers for your help mate.

Based on your budget, the 7970 is probably a better option. But if you prefer the 680 why not! I guess it depends how flexible your budget is. This is with a 680, 500GB HDD and that case. Also included a 2500K for pricing...
