good evening

Gona start ordering my first rig tomorrow. Was thinking about a 680, is it worth waiting for the custom cards on pre order? what are the benefits to performance etc

Pretty much pick and choose atm based on your cooler preference. Silicone lottery will determine your overclock until cards like the hall of fame, dcu2, lightning, classified, zotac extreme etcetcetc come out.

Some cards have extra power phases and 6+8 pin already but these are largely for marketing as they don't make much if any difference.

VRAM will only become an issue if you plan on playing with 3 screens. Otherwise, go for whatever card your budget decides. BTW, my reference 680 is very good. I can't hear the fans at 40% and only just hear them at 50%

except i intend to leave you lot behind and upgrade to a GTX 690 ( Greg you forgot to mention this) :D :D

laugh my ******** off

You are now going for a 690?

no no i'm being sarcastic, i'm taking the **** mate....flipping heck , it's you that's upgrading to a 690, hallo is anyone there

yes i know, but i had second thoughts quite a long time before i chose the 7970.... what killed me, was the realisation that using a tv meant that a 690 was a waste of time anyway, because i'm limited to 100 Htz, which means 100fps, so there's no point worrying about 120, 200 or 360 fps... ( sharp 60'' led)

i love the tv, absolutely love it, so there's no way for future proofing that i need anything bigger than the 7970.

finally, the GTX 685 AINT COMING Out

Mal you confuse me sometimes??? The OP asked a question and you went off miles. Please stick to the OP's questions.

Back on topic, the cooler on that KFA2 looks good and very easy to de-dust. Not a bad price either for the current market.
