Tourists Banned From Dutch Cannabis Cafes

^^ Like most cities. Except, well you know, there is an extra reason to go to Holland. Take that away and less folk will go there. How hard is that to understand?

Unless the reputation for drugs puts people off going then take that away and you may get more visitors. Or get higher spending visitors...

I highly doubt it, considering the other things that the Dam is reknown for to be honest. The folk put off by drugs will probably be put off by the sex scenes and the homosexual scene too.

As for the art, well, I doubt arty types are put off by cannabis.

One of the whole points about the Dam is it's liberal, tolerant attitudes anyway.

Moses if you can spare 50 minutes, Educate yourself :)

A bit slow to start but becomes very interesting.

e2a: 24mins onwards = a lot of facts about Cannabis from Prof. David Nutt.

That's a good point... the people irrational enough to get put off by people smoking a bit of weed are likely to be more put off by the prostitution, no? :p

EXCELLENT REBUTTAL

***** Would read again.

I dunno, it's not the image of the drugs themselves but the image of legions of stoned potheads wandering the streets. Brothels don't conjure up an image of the streets being teeming with sexual perverts and rapists in the same way.

I know that.

And it wasn't being used as a motive for legalising it.

Just the intolerance towards cannabis in this day and age is - in my opinion - unfounded.

Edit - make it as personal as you wish Kenai, good day. :)

Edit 2 - and no harm was meant by what I said.

Not making it personal at all, just thought it was funny how quickly you attempted to bail out citing others ignorance as the reason :p

Lol, have you actually been there? Some of the sex scene is pretty bloody ugly to be fair.

Alcohol are tobacco are only legal because the horse has already bolted. Them being legal isn't a good argument for legalising anything less harmful than them :|.

'round and 'round we go.

Could we have just a little respect for adults who make informed choices, about so many things, that when used sensibly and not abused, enchance our lives that we live and do not damage them?

Do you really want to live in place where prohibition is the norm for everything? You cant stop at alcohol and fags, you must move on to fast food, caffine, energy drinks, prescribed drugs... etc... etc... etc....

There is evidence to suggest that the UK now exports more cannabis than it imports, due to the prolific home grow culture.

It must be racial discrimination under EU law to deny visitors access to cafes surely?
in any case, all it will do is destroy the hard work of the city in clearing drug touts off the street in recent years, and push them back under ground. At the same time they will destroy a lot of honest businesses and put people out of work. Not to mention the benefits to the local economy that tourism brings.

it makes no sense to me what so ever.

Maybe they will simply do what Spain did when they tried to ban smoking... the entire co.try simply ingnored the law and carried on as normal.

it makes a mockery of the system when laws are made against the will if the public.

There's 1 reason Cannabis isnt legal and 1 only, Money.

Why do you think GW Pharma are allowed to grow 50k plants (in the UK) and turn it into Savitex? Money.

Yet MS sufferers amongst others with chronic illness's say Savitex is no good (If theyre lucky enough to be prescribed it at £11 a day) most are refused.

Cannabis doesnt produce the horrific side-effects that most prescribed drugs do, It enables 10000's of people to live without chronic pain, but with fear the chance of going to jail.

No but that's entirely irrelevant when the discussion is about perceptions and not necessarily the reality of what the place is like.

As I say, I think the image of loads of stoners everywhere is more negative than that of brothels.

Brothels have a 'behind closed doors' perception - the drug use doesn't.

It's all the same though, in some ways the horse has already bolted with cannabis. If you were to make tobacco and alcohol illegal, all you would achieve is de-regulation and forcing it underground, you lose any revenue and still have the NHS catering to the ill-effects. This is exactly where cannabis is, it's illegal and therefore un-regulated. I beleive the country would do far better by legalising it and regulating it and drawing a revenue from it. Another problem with cannabis is the circles you interact with when something is illegal, in my view and from personal experience cannabis being illegal draws users in to much harder drugs by association. However, it will always be a two sided argument with pros and cons to both.
