Just bought Project C.A.R.S and finding that my system is a little lack luster. While the whole pc is old, I think the main problem is the lack of power in the graphic card. I currently have:

ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series 512MB

I've found that running the game even at low settings on 1920x1080 is giving me around 20-30fps while dropping the resolution to 1280x1024 (windowed) I'm getting closer to 40fps. I'm still not happy with that as it still jumps and jitters still. I even dared to test the game at full settings and it was lucky to get 1fps :D

I'd be looking around the £100-£150 mark for a card, what would you recommend?
My full system spec is as follows:
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
Gigabyte 965P-DS3P
4094MB Generic RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series 512Mb
SAMSUNG HD753LJ ATA 100GB HDD
Windows Vista 64bit

Appreciate any advice :)

have you tried overclocking the q6600?

I had a 4870 512mb as well with an e2140 @ 3.2Ghz and the cpu was not enough for games to make the gfx at 100% usage in 1080

EDIT: just saw the price range. a 6950 £160 or 6870 £139 might do

Thanks for the quick response and a fellow Northern Irelander :)

I haven't overclocked the Q6600 and if I'm honest I doubt it will make much difference given the low settings and the age of the computer in general.

I might look into those cards, I'm not brand specific so best band for the buck is pretty much is what I'm after. :)

Edit I've just ran the game and noticed that it hits nearly 99C while running and about 75C idle! Might need to clean the fans :P The actual usage was 100% as well but I assume that's alright?

if the card is running at 100% thats good

check the usage again when you get the new card so you know if its running on its fullest

if i were you ill get the 2gb 6950 as it looks like project cars will like the extra vram

Cars needs quite a bit of v-ram due to the size of the textures etc. etc.

I have a 4850 with 1GB and can play 1920x1080 quite happily on high texture settings but low post processing and lighting.

Why not get a 7850 and unlock the OC limit? That would get you 7950 (around that) speeds if you're up for unlocking it and are confident about OC'n. :)

I think a 7850 is out of my price bracket unfortunately :(

+1

What cpu cooler have you got? *ignore

Just checked out you're motherboard, don't overclock the cpu. :D

Oh now you're asking. The system hasn't been updated in maybe 4-6 years and I can't remember. :(

I haven't OC'd the cpu, but why shouldn't I with this mobo?
