Homeplug Retricting my Virgin 100MB?

I am beginning to see that Homeplugs are not as fast as they are advertised which is beginning to make me think that the reason i am not achieving 100MB broadband on my connection is down to these plugs.

I can quite easily achieved the full speed when i was on Virgin 50MB package so is it possible that i will need to switch to the TP link 500MB homeplugs to achieve the full 100mb?
 
to rule out the homeplugs being a problem, you need to test your connection when plugged directly into the router, even if that does mean lugging your computer into another room.
 
At the moment the most i have got is around 50MB. I have ordered a longer ethernet cable to test later. Upon doing some research it appears that i will either need to wire my connection of buy the 500MB homeplugs :(
 
Did the homeplugs come with an utility program? My Netgears did, and it is able to tell me the true sync speeds between both homeplugs.
 
I don't think any homeplug is going to give you a full duplex 100Mbit/s. If you want full whack I'd consider Ethernet cabling if it is practical to do so.
 
This would depend on a lot of things but yes, homeplugs are a bit like ADSL broadband... The speed advertised is the theoretical max so you won't get it! 100Mbps homeplugs would probably give you the speeds you have.

That being said, if you have 200Mbps or 500Mbps homeplugs then those should offer enough bandwidth for your broadband unless your electrical wiring is made of cheese.

I assume your homeplugs are connected directly to the sockets and not into an extension lead etc as those will lower speed quite a lot.
 
Yes but upon researching these homeplugs many have said that 50MB is about right for the 200MBP homeplugs. They are effectively 100 up and 100 down hence the 200MBP. I will probably have to try the 500 ones :(

Unless your house is a new build or has been rewired recently then its a waste of time. Buy them from somewhere happy to take them back if they don't give you any decent benefits (which to be honest I would be surprised if they do)

If the 200MB homeplug is only giving you 50mb, why do you think a 500mb homeplug will give you any more?

It only ups the limit that is ultimately governed by your electrical wiring. If your wiring cant handle the max a 200mb homeplug can deliver, it wont make a bit of difference.

That is not really how the home plugs function in my experience. What I have seen is you tend to get a % of the plugs max speed, so my 80 Mbps plugs gave me a 40 Mbps (20 Mbps up and down) my 200 Mbps plugs give me c. 100 Mbps (50 mbps up and down).
