Tourists Banned From Dutch Cannabis Cafes

Theres loads.

The beers amazing compared to here, the city itself is lovely, there are are countless things to do just in the city, let alone in surrounding citys. And it's just amusing to look around all of the 'hooker' areas.

I don't like to drink. I wanted to taste freedom.

I'ld say it's higher too. 1/3 only going there to smoke different types like a connoisseur and the rest who go for other things but 'only' because they can buy and smoke there too.

I'ld say 1/3 of tourists go there for completely un-smoke related stuff.

Go and live in an oppressed country for a day (if you can even make it to a day) and then come back the UK and you'll see how free you actually are.

So what would you of done in Holland then then if your not a fan of the touristy 'things'?, just get stoned in a cafe?

And why not? Some people can handle the sauce, those that can't should not get in the kitchen and spoil it for the rest. And stoned in cafe would make a refreshing change.

London has a lot of tourists because apart from that, and Scotland, thats what they know about mainland UK, that and probably because of the heritage of the Royals in the UK and London and generally its the first city they will enter and probably stay in when they enter the UK, plus its one of the most recognised cities in the world.

Amsterdam will always be a highly recognised city, but generally for the relaxed culture (well not so anymore). It does have the tourist attraction for stuff not related to sex and drugs, however thats generally left to the older generation, who again will sometimes be put off going anyway by its seedy and relaxed scene.

Well done guys, you don't need a drug that affects the chemicals in your brain to enjoy something, you can do it by causing a chemical change in your brain through exercise and food.

When you eat chocolate that affects your brain, when you exercise you release chemicals into your system. Your an idiot if your argument is "I don't like drugs because I get my kicks another way".

Why am I an idiot for not enjoying drugs and enjoying the endorphines, dopamine and seratonin releases that I get through keeping fit and eating good food?

Oh and it's "you're" ;)

Amsterdam - From what I've seen through pictures - is a beautiful city with loads of things to do other than the obvious. However, I know for a fact, that at least a third of tourism in Amsterdam is purely for Cannabis Cafes and other naughty things :p

Tourism will be affected - It would be interesting to see (That's if this goes ahead), whether they will change their mind 6 months down the line when their tourism levels decline hard.

Oh I know that, but I've been there what...Six times and never been to a prostitute. And only smoked the first time I was there.

Well go there for the architecture then? For some of the museums?

I would recommend going to the out-skirts of the city as well where there are less/no tourists, much nicer.

Holland has a MASSIVE history one which would rival the UKs... so there's a lot to see and learn there... It's got a massive cultural heritage too. Drugs is such a tiny proportion of their culture.

You should see the amount of yanks over there :p It's amazing

If the primary reason to visit a place is gone, then i will choose another destination. Not disputing that there other and maybe better things to do but i just wanted to for 1 reason and thats gone.

I really don't think so. They're not prohibiting completely, so locals can still use it. They're just stopping sales to tourists... which, instead of fuelling a massive black market, will just stop drug tourists bothering to go.

I forgot that the locals can still use no problem, so I can see your point. However, Amsterdam will always be seen as an easy place to obtain Cannabis. As long as it stays 'decriminalised', I can see more people standing around offering drugs to tourists, and these guys will be unregulated, and could be selling anything!

Yeah, I've never been myself, but I would love to go one day. It certainly looks beautiful.

Can I just say, it's been nice to see other peoples views on this and to see a healthy debate going without the likes of people jumping down each others throats just because they have a different opinion. Good job OcUK ;) :p

You are in beautiful country steeped in interesting history and architecture, sights to see, activities to take part in, a chance to culture yourself and you'd prefer to sit in cafe stoned :(, this is why I hate the drug.

It will cause a bigger problem for the city as you will be moving the activities underground. Form the cafe on to the streets

I'd recommend it when you get a chance :)

I know. That's a thing I don't "Get"... however, everyone's different... but it's like people who spend thousands of pounds to fly over to a tiny island in the Caribbean or Thailand, and sit on a beach in a resort all holiday... what's the point? Just go the Med for 1/2 the price if you want to be surrounded by English people not seeing or experiencing the culture... :/

Still what is the problem with that?
You make it sound like it will be a 24/7 holiday of none stop smoking.
