I thought someone rich would do this one day?

Still doesn't explain why someone would want to build a replica this far on of an old boat when they could easily have something much more magnificent :/

I would agree, but I don't like boats, to him this may be as appealing as that modern E-Type Jag clone they had on Topgear is to a petrolhead.

According to Wiki for 2011

Yet when it came to an aircraft carrier they bought a rusting hulk of a failed Russian project to refurbish instead.

Hows the high speed train network going? Still falling to bits?

They're building one based off the design of the one they bought to retrofit according to US intelligence.

They seem to be masters of copying other peoples work.

Given that Australians tend to lack class in general an Australian Billionaire is likely to have the worst possible taste... Not withstanding the fact that the idea itself is crass his implementation of it, with Chinese help, is likely to be pretty dire.

Shouldnt be too hard to recreate the same interior style as the original Titanic. Theres plenty of source material for them to work with. Hell even watching James Cameron's movie would give them most of what they needed to know.

Yet the majority of the new build hulls are all done in china, from the new shell LNG FPSO to a lot of the semi subs.

I don't doubt they will get a lot of the interior looking similar to the original, the project will still end up being tacky.

for the right price i'd love to go on this ship along with many other people i know i'm sure. there is enough demand i'd say to build it, and that's one good reason why for those who don't understand.

what i'd like to know is how will they deal with the 3rd class rooms

Yup, people did that with the Olympic to reenact the Titanic voyage (without the iceberg) as it was virtually identital to Titanic except in a few areas.

I don't understand the fuss about the Titanic, You build a ship that sinks killing over 2000 people you'd think you'd want to forget about it not promote it to death/rebuild a rep/owt else.

Great money making idea.

Build Titanic II.
Crash it into an iceberg and let it sink it on it's maiden voyage.
Claim insurance.
Make a movie.
Sell cuddly toy replica's etc.
;)

When the Titanic was sunk originally, the correct response should have been to build a bigger one, right away. There's a great deal to be said for putting two fingers up to the world in defiance.
